Default Jeff Gordon Q&A (oval vs road, montoya, home, sport...)

another good article from Crash.net. gordon talks about a lot of things and seem fairly frank about it all, especially the issue of Nascar drivers and road courses.

JG: "Some guys just don't have the knack for downshifting and turning right."

I like what JG's partner said that Gordon told him what driving a F1 car was like. He said it reminded him of a video game, w/ all the buttons on the steering wheel

He also said the car's traction control was weird. He said if you eased into the gas, the car would get squirly and what not, but if you went into a turn and just mashed the gas, the car would take off like a rocket.

Good stuff... the transcript from the Gordon/Montoya event was a really good read too (http://www.theracesite.com/ind...=5372).

I know nothing about NASCAR.. zip, zero, zilch. But the more stuff I read about JG, and more directly, what he says, makes me proud to be #24. He seems like a pretty cool guy/racer

edit: i found this link on the same site particularly good too

gordon is a cry baby, he's loves the road courses cause many of them suck on them and he doesn't.

all that bs about positive attitude, he's always bitching about NHIS and that's a oval, but is very flat with 12 degrees of banking. what a hypocrite, i hate the *** even more.

tony stewart is the **** though, he used to drive indy and he was a champion. he doesn't give **** what track he's on, he just wants to race.

heh... like I said, I know diddly about NASCAR and all I know about JG was what I read on those two transcripts. You uh, apparently have some pent up (not really pent up) rage against the guy it sounds like. lol

i respect him as a driver, but like many real non-bandwagon nascar fans we dislike jeff. if your at race he gets booed a lot. sometimes you can here in the background on tv if they show diver introductions when they cruise around the track on the back of a truck. last year at NHIS he was calling for them to red flag the race cause he didn't like the track. i listen to the scanners during the race so you can here all the crap these guys say while racing. the only people who wear his merchandise are chicks, kids, and people who don't buy tickets and get them for free. dale jr. gets booed too, not as much as jeff, many people don't like his father cause he was a dirty racer. rubbing is racing, but that **** would crash you to win a race on the last lap.

lol not to get into a nascar argument here (can't say I ever argued about nascar before!), but if you say that you are a "real non-bandwagon" nascar fan, then why is it that you dislike Jeff so much? Do you boo him too and are part of the booing Jeff bandwagon instead? Just because little kids buy someone's toys (or whatever he has) and just because many other people don't like someone, it sure as heck won't change *my* personal opinion on the person in question. I loose respect for someone just by their actions and that's it, not by what others think. The example you described over the radio is something that happens at every race. All drivers in any series bitch about something or other at one point or another, nothing's new. IMO JG is the best driver in nascar, kicks *** on road courses and is a good PR guy for the sport. It's people/drivers like him that I would like to see more in nascar. But take all this with a huge grain of salt, as I'm not exactly the nascar expert! Oh and Dale sr. wasn’t exactly among my “top favorite nascar drivers”, either.

edit: just noticed I can't spell "boo" correctly

I caught that on Speedvision last week, kinda funny. They were confused as hell about the downshifting and the ability to stop so quickly. Mabey he will realize that NASCAR sucks.

it seems the 'real' fans of every sport dislike the team/person/player who wins the most frequently.

did you even bother to read the link??

he bitched cause he lost and said someone cheated. people don't like whiny cry babies in any sport. he could have been a man and just said bobby gordon had a faster car than me today instead of coming up with excuses that really paid no effect on the final outcome. it obviuos if you watched the race, gordon had no forward bite on the sharp to turns so he could not accelerate hard out of the corners like bobby gordon could. hell what about all the guys that got tagged and spun out. i didn't here them bitch publically, although i'm sure after the race they had some words. hell dale jr. and tony stewart were running in the top 10 only to get spun out by someone hitting them in the back. they're driving skill and some fresh tires almost caught them back up to a top 10 finish. i didn't here them make any statements so far. the one that took on tony, ryan newman finished 5th too. that would certainly **** me off more than some guy who raced to the line on a yellow flag just to take over 5th position which really didn't even effect gordon.

Well after reading that article (thanks btw, very interesting how those guys get along!) nascar does have quite a stupid rule if it allows to race to the line under a full course yellow!! I had no idea they had this. So in theory, there are 5 cars blocking the track at T5, and the full course caution is out. However, the guys at T2 are still allowed to race until the finish line? That's almost a whole lap! Well, guess if they T bone head on the 5 car blockade in T5 as they are racing and passing each other, their lap ends right there. lol Seriously, R Gordon did look desperate to win this thing and passing people under a full course caution is certainly a thing he would do. Nascar should definitely address this. But ya know what? Nothing ever changes/improves in anything if it's not for people "crying" about it.

And btw, that was a great race. I had a lot of fun watching it and it was a huge shame I had to miss some of it since CART was also on at the same time unfortunately. I'm also glad that pole that showed that the majority of nascar viewers wanted MORE road races on the nascar circuit! And how can you not? This was a very exiting race to watch for its entirety. Now if Ron (he's always my pick) and Boris' teams wouldn’t have totally given away their races, they could have easily finished 1-2 . Together with the bad pit strategy and that idiot spinning out Ron, I think Fellows ran through that entire field of cars if you add up all the cars he passed in the end.

^yeah robbie gordon is desperate to win any race. he had to knock out jeff inorder to win his first NWC. i think that's another reason why jeff didn't try to make pass, cause he knew robbie would probably hit em again. when your in a points race 5 points for 1st isn't worth the chance of getting spun out.

i tell the roadcourses really show you who the good drivers are. i think kyle petty should hang it up.

said and fellows will probably have a tough time winning simply cause they don't race for a good team. they have been ringers on the roadcourses for a while now but they don't drive for decent team when they race a cup car. as it is the penzoil car got it's best finish of the year yesterday. i think it just goes to show what a good race team can do for you.

KGAccord is all bent about Jeff Gordon being a cry baby, so be it. All he's doing is proving a point earlier stated that people don't like drivers that win too much. Hell, he even crapped on how he feels Earnhardt Sr. was a dirty driver. Yeah, Earnhardt has pushed few out to the way to win a race or two, but take a look at some of the retarded things Stewart has done in his short career in Cup racing. Like when he spun Gordon on pit road after the race... and Earnhardt was dirty? I've been to plenty of Cup races, and Stewart is now hearing those same boos as well.

More on the topic, the most pissed person about the whole incident Sunday was Robby Gordon's teammate Kevin Harvick. This gentlemen's agreement not to race back to the yellow is just to protect each other. Regardless, Robby Gordon's a good driver, but an idiot. - AB
