Opinions on Skip Barber schools
I plan on going to the 3 day race school at Virginia International Raceway on nov 21-23. It's $3295. Is it worth the money? I have NO formal road race exp. but i have auto-x'd quite a bit and have ridden a couple laps in some cars at Summit Point, VIR and at Leguna Seca. I have good basic skills and am finally in a financial situation that will allow me to start road racing. Any suggestions on this school? How hard would it be to move up into the barber dodge series? Besides money.
I went to the 3 day skippy school at road america. back then ('01) it was $2595, and like you it was the first time I could (barely) afford it. I got a lot out of it even though I didn't have money to continue with the series. You will surely be above someone who has never driven a race car before, and maybe learn enough to be better than some amateur but more experienced drivers.
Hi
Skip Barber is the best school, if you want to race or just learn. My son started in August 2000 with the 3-day school and no racing experience, including karts. In the second season, he won the Western Championship and was a top contender for the National Championship.
He won the Scholarship Run-off in Dec 2002 and is currently racing in the Barber Dodge Pro Series. He only has 2 years of racing experience, racing against the best drivers that came from Karts, so it is possible to start out in Skip Barber and move up the ladder.
Robbie is Skip Barber's role model/spokesperson for people with no experience that come to Skip Barber and succeed in moving up. In fact, Robbie is the designated Scholarship Driver to promote the school to the Import Tuner Market.
Haven't worked out the details yet, but we are working on group discounts for Import Clubs like Honda-Tech. If you are interested in attending a Skip Barber course, please send me an email to robmonty@aol.com.
We are in the Portland race right now, so I don't have time to write much, but we can talk more after the weekend about whatever you want to know. Check out our website for more info: http://www.montinola.com
