Highway driving with S1 tranny...
I'm going to be doing some highway driving next week with my B16A/S1. And since we all know that these JDM S1 transmissions suck *** on the highway, I was wondering which wheels would be the best to use (IE tallest, so better gearing for the highway, if I'm correct)
I have: 13" steelies with 175/70/R13 tires
or
CRX Si wheels and tires: 185/60/R14, which I realize are heavier and wider, so worse gas mileage, but are they worse to use on the highway too?
Sorry if this is a stupid question, but I was just curious... And i figured the HT Tech pros would know an answer to a simple question like this.

I guess you have to go with big diameter tires to make up for the high rpm. For example, your 13" turns will cover 1 mile/min. Bigger tires will cover 1.5 mile/min. So it wouldn't be that bad. Trade-off is worse mileage.

Crusing at 80mph (129kmh) on my JDM S1 is at 4700rpm.
If you don't like cruising at high rpm, then swap in an LS 5th.
With the S1's 5th, fuel consumption isn't bad at all at high rpm cruising.
there is more rpm, but less load than if you had larger gearing.

As you can see, the JDM YS1 has a shorter 1st & 5th.
I've taken apart my JDM S1 and confirmed those ratios by counting the teeth..
