Default Throttle body filter

I saw a pic today of a high flow K&N mounted right on the throttle body is there any gains or loss from this practice, what would it do.

depends on the app. but almost definately a loss...

the intake tube smooths out the flow of the air.. unless you had a velocity stack on top of the tb I don't think it would run too smooth till the higher rpms. even then I'm sure the turbulence combined with the hotter under-hood temps it would be a loss.
