Can I unplug my VAFC?
I was just wondering if I can just unplug my VAFC without damaging anything. I searched, and this was the first question that I have had that I could not find the answer to. I want to unlpug it until i can get it tuned properly. The jackass that sold me the car lied about so many other things, that i don't think he had it tuned properly and i am getting some crazy numbers.
Just a history on the car - I bought a '94 GSR with 77k on it a couple of months back. It had a B18C5 bottom end in it. He told me that he got an amazing deal on it that he could not pass up. It sounded fishy, but the car looked, and drove awesome. I bought it the next week. A week later it stared misfiring like crazy and i found out that the headgasket was blown, due to repeated over heating. the overheating also warped the head. So i finally got my car back after almost a month, and i am taking some pics with my roomates jdm lude. in the parking lot i start to get rod knock REAL bad. found out that my block is patched because some mechanic stripped the head bold out of the block, and my crankshaft and rod bearings were shot. my badass mechanic got me a deal on an ls block for cheap so he threw that in there, and know i am running an ls/vtec.
mods include: skunk2 IM, AEM CAI, SMS header, no cat, tanabe racing med exh, 17 inch racing hart rims, gc coilovers, tokiko 5 way adjustables, crower valve springs and retainers (dont know the numbers, but they are there) and of course, the Apexi VAFC.
CLIFF NOTES my first post here, no need to before.... can I unplug my VAFC? will leaving it in incorrectly tuned hurt my car worse then unpluging it.

Your car will start, but it is not going to run under load (driving). The VAFC splices he MAP sensor so by discontecting you are essentially running without a MAP input to the ECU. This is not a good thing.
what you need to do is reset the vafc, back to the default settings.
first you need to go under the etc. menu and select initialize and restore the factory settings. now you need to initialize the vafc.
select etc. from the main menu. next go to sensor type and put both to 06.then from the etc. menu go to car select and set cyl. numbers. now go back to etc. menu and choose sensor check, check for wide open and closed throttle settings. now go back and set throtle setting under car select(in the etc. menu) the arrow should point to the upper right hand corner with your foot off the gas pedal. now you need to perform the throttle position self learn. leave the throttle closed for ten seconds and wide open for ten seconds. now turn your ignition key off and you are done.
you can also go to apexi and print the instructions.
