Default Info wanted on Cobalt GT-Sport pads

What is the wear like on the pad?

What about wear on the rotor?

Noisy? (Let me know if you shim and grease your pads, thanks.)

Performance?

I did a search, but want more info, preferably from folks who've been using them for a while.

Bob#455 has been running these as a daily driven pad, I'm sure that he could give you some pretty good real world data.

I bought these pads before the ITR Expo this year.

They were a great pad on the track. Took the abuse much better than my previous pads, Porterfield R4-S.

I daily drive them on the street, and they work great. I was warned that they would squeel under light braking, but I haven't noticed it much. (I can only hear it with the stereo off) I did not ship or grease the pads before installation.

In daily driving, I can clearly tell the coefficient of friction is much lower on the first hard stop of a drive. I've played with threshold braking in a remote part of my work parking lot, and the second stop always catches me off guard, because it stops so much more abruptly.

I haven't noticed any unusual wear on the rotors.

I know Asahi is very happy with his and he DDs them. Will likely be my next pad when my Axxis Ults wear out.

Very good pad wear...I've been driving them for 3 months (and 3 autocrosses) and there is about 85-90% pad life remaining.

<TABLE WIDTH="90%" CELLSPACING=0 CELLPADDING=0 ALIGN=CENTER><TR><TD>Quote &raquo;</TD></TR><TR><TD CLASS="quote">What about wear on the rotor?</TD></TR></TABLE>

No noticeable wear (although rotors are so cheap I don't really consider rotor wear to be a big deal).

The rears squeal a little bit when they get warm. No shims or grease.

For a street/autox pad, they perform excellent. Better bite than the Ultimates and R4S I've used previously, and they withstand higher temps (I use GT-Sports in the rear when I go to the track and they are still in great shape).

Overall, I give the GT-Sport and would definitely buy them again.

I've been told that these pads eat rotors and are too noisy. I'm just feeling things out, so I'd like to get a few more opinions.

Anyone know anything about ferodo DS2500 or Carbotech bobcats?

Thanks.

I have been using these pads for a lil while.
awesome performance.
more dust than stock, but easy to clean
at first they don't squeel, but after a couple weeks of use they will squeel at low speed with low brake pressure....but not very loud

I am using both shims and antisqueal.

Thanks.

The more I'm reading, the more the Bobcats sound like a hell of a product.

Bobcats are a great dual-purpose pad from what i've heard so far... I've been driving on OE or Ultimates lately and just swapping pads at the track (Cobalt IT-R spec B pads), i think this is more cost effective in the long run since the XP's and P+'s dont wear as well when they're cold, and the cobalt IT-R Spec B (thats a mouthfull) are *very* harsh on the rotors when cold - they were grooved up after a 5 hr highway drive to beaverun, with fresh rotors.

I'll put in my vote for the GT-Sports also, I have had them and Ultimates on my gsr. The rotor wear is consistent with a pad with slightly higher metal content than the axxis pad, however it is well within limits. I have a couple thousand miles on the pads and I can tell I may get 10K on them using the axxis ultimates in the rear. I am using a smaller caliper/rotor combination also so consider with hard driving they will wear faster. the axxis in the rear is nice, its a bit more front biased than I may like for my setup but to be expected. I also run the ATE super blue and I can tell you that it made a real difference in my car. the honda brake fluid just boiled on me when I bedded in the pads... when I bled them I had some air in the lines... and my fluid was like 29K old... so.. yea. when I put in the ATE, right away I noticed a solid improvement. next for me will be stainless lines and a fresh set of GT sports all around me thinks when these hit 50% so I can have them as a spare set I will tell you though, be careful bedding in your new pads/rotors for anyone with GSR sized brakes... they get hot. I warped a set and andie had to take care of me on that and give me some instructions so I would have greater success the next time around. the pads do squeal under light pedal pressure and sometimes feel like they scrub as if they are "hard" when I push on them coming to a mild stop on the street. once I hit them with some decent pedal pressure... oh man. BBBBBRRROAAAAAAAAAK!! they can lock up wherever and whenever I want them to

Just put mine on and ran them through some twisty roads. They worked very well. Clearly better bite than stock when warmed up. And what made me most happy was their resistance to fade. I was able to get my OEM pads to fade on command but these held up under everything I subjected them to. To me they really seem to dust a lot. I've been very meticulous with my car and they seem to dust around twice as much as the OEM pads would.

i've had a set for a little while now.

I have no squeal from mine at any speed with no shims or grease.

Mine are wearing as good or better than any other pad I have used. No noticable rotorwear either.

The Initial bite and modulation of these pads is absolutely awesome. I used to run Hawk HP+ and these are everything the Hawk was and more. They do dust a bit but honestly no more than an axxis Ultimate and the bite is a lot better.

I would buy these for street/auto-x/light track duty over anything ouyt there. I can't imagine any pad being noticably better than this and the one thing I can assure you that you will get with the cobalt pads that you won't get with any other pads mentioned is the customer service that is second to none.

What type of rotors would you suggest with these pads? I'm needing to replace my pads and I"m wondering if the OEM rotors are ok or will they warp? What would you guys suggest for a replacement rotor?

I drove BrewCityR's R at MAM with these pads... for about 10 laps. Very nice
No fade, although there are some very long straights that I'm sure help cool everything off, but nonetheless I was very impressed.

I still can brake much later with my VR's, but I was pleasantly suprised with the GT-Sports.

the only mistake I made with mine was bedding the pads in on **** fluid... and stok owned rear squealing brake pads... talk about nose dive...

but seriously... I cant wait to put on a fresh set with new lines and pads/rotors all around... not ITR calipers/rotors but still fun I put em in at 62K and I have 79950, the fronts still have 50-60% pad surface miles on them and I have been a moron with these pads doing completely unnecessary ful ABS lockup in 5th gear stops from like 60 or 120 for no damn reason at all... ALOT HAHAA!!
funny thing is, my dumb *** bought ultimates for the rear... and they are wearing quicker than the fronts!!!!

i just received a set of these pads for the rear. i called cobalt and asked for a rear pad i could use all year round (nj typical temp range 15-95) AND on the track for hpde. cobalt shipped out the gt sports and said it would be perfect; up front, i use oem pads for street/autox and cobalt spec vr pads for hpde. i haven't put them on yet, but i imagine they'll be just as good (hopefully better) than the axxis ultimate i've had back there for the last year.

well, the cobalt gt sports absolutley kick *** in autocross! a small squeal on the street (ungreased, unshimmed) but nothing to be worried about. they will dust a bit, but it is acceptable. as far as rotor wear, i shred through rotors, so it doesn't seem as nearly as bad as some of the full race pads.

Sorry to bring back this thread guys, but I just have a quick question about the GT-Sports...

The dusting... How bad is it? Bad enough to ruin the finish on a set of wheels? The Spec B's really worked a number on my wheels, fenders, and door jams, should I expect the same from the GT-Sports? Thanks guys!!

They dust, but they're not a problem, the dust just washed off when I washed the car and wheels. I've not had a problem with them so far. Worst case scenario you clay bar the car once in a while.

big for this pad. Ive been rocking them on the street and track since last november (even through winter) and never had a problem. Not too much dust, noise is virtually non existent, 100X better than the shitty EBC pads I had before these.

Ryan, who needs to bleed his brakes.

Bah, the paint is a lost cause anyway, I'm more concerned with the wheels. But it doesn't sound like I'll have much of a problem.

Those Spec B's though man, I washed my car in the driveway the other day and now my driveway is covered in rust! I'll see if I can snap a pic of it today... Its kinda funny, I had never seen concrete rust before!
