Default Cool It thermal wrap

i just wrapped my intake pipe in this "cool it thermal wrap" to reduce heat. maybe give cooler air since it blocks up to 75% heat? hah i get in wierd moods where i do wierd things sometimes... do you think it would do anything?

it would have porbably been more effective if you wrapped your headers in that stuff to keep them hot (hot is fast), and reduce underhood temps.

I was thinking of doing the exact same thing. I'm not a physicist, but metal is a goo dconductor of heat. I doubt it takes very long for the air travelling through the intake to heat up (if the intake pipe is hot itself from driving around a lot).

How much did the material cost you, and where did you get it?

Thermo-Tec is the company that make the stuff you got.
It is normally used on headers, turbo manifolds and other exhaust parts.
I don't see the harm in doing what you did. Sure it is not going to give mad
horsepower gains, but it is fun to try stuff.
Thermo-tec also makes a spray that you can "paint" onto a wrapped part.
This makes it like a cast (like when you break your leg) it too is heat resistant.
The downside to putting this stuff on headers is that it keeps the heat in so well,
header manufactures will say this stuff voids the warranty. The inner walls of the header can build up so much heat that cracks can appear.
This is all hear-say, as i have a roll of 1" X 50' of this stuff and have been too lazy to try it out.

for something that doesn't generate heat itself i would reccomend this stuff you can find at any big hardware store. it's basically bubble wrap sandwiched between two layers of aluminum. i cut it into 3 inch widths and wrapped various intake tubes i've had thru the years. the results? well at least your engine bay looks a little different than everyone else's but i can't say it took two tenths off my ET.

ummm...maybe this is exactly the type of stuff you used...oh well

i got it from work with my employee discount and it was 11 bucks. i would not recomend wraping your header in this stuff because it bruns out the header faster. if you want to coat your header for the same effect get it power coated inside and out with some stuff that i forgot the name of

but it is fun to try stuff.
That's just about the only reason I'd do it. The air is your intake for less than a fraction of a second I truly doubt that wrapping it will do much of anything for performance but hey it looks cool.

DC voids the warranty on their headers if you wrap them
