Default miss shifted and over rev

Friend was going shifting from 3rd to 4th but accidently went to 2nd. Now car sputters at idle. People said the exhaust valves might be bent. For people who have over revved, what problems did you encounter? And was it as easy as just replacing the bent valves with new ones? btw its a h22a.

oh ****....here we go. pop the head and make sure there aren't any other damage...check the pistons for damage as well. you might wanna check the valvetrain for damage while you're at it...

Ok, I just recently had this problem. I misshifted from 3rd to 2nd instead of 3rd to 4th while drag racing at Englishtown Raceway back in March. After I did it the car idled like absolute ****. I babyed the motor all the way home (3 hour drive back to MD). Pulled the head off, I could BARELY notice any bent valves, but they were there. I bent 3 exhaust valves. Once you take the head off your motor do this test. Lay the head on the exhaust port side and pour water into the intake ports. If you see any water seep out of the valves then you know the valves are bent. Next, flip it over so the head rests on the intake ports then pour water into the exhaust valves. Look for water seeping past. Worked like a charm for me

i dont know if i can hear a knocking, but when i pull the throttle cable i can hear a strange noise under the valve cover. Its hard to explain, or i must not know what knocking sounds like. Is it clearly noticable to hear when it knocks? And b16a ferio, when you bent the valves, nothing else was damaged? And was it as easy as replacing the valves and everything is fixed?

When I bent my valves, I was lucky and thats all i messed up. When I pulled my head off, i expected to see some sort of slaughtering, but surprisingly it was all fine except for the valves. The noise I heard from mine wasn't really a knocking or anything, just a REALLY lumpy idle and the motor shook a lot because cylinder 3 had low compression (because the valves were bent and never really closed). Here is a link to my How-To for installing new valve train components

its a loud knocking noise and gets faster as you go up the rpm range. I've heard it befor did it to my ecplise so i'm use to it. People said i might have bent a valve or maybe the springs needed to be adjusted since i just did head work but i knew what it was. It sounds like knocking a loud knocking

yup, unfortunatly i too mis-shifted, instead 3rd to 4th, i went 3rd to 2nd at 8500rpm on his b16 and a chipped ecu. next day we inspected it, the rod went right through the block....oops, my bad also, when we swapped the b16 for a b20, there were a whole bunch of little pieces of the block in the header and what not... on me!
