I'll have more pictures and video shortly that I'll post here, but for now, here's a few laps with Scott. I still need to get the in-car tape from Victor and edit it.
Somewhere in about the middle of the race -- Right click, save as.... 6 megs
Second to the last lap. It appears Scott's tires are going -- Right click, save as.... 6 megs
Last lap. It appears Scott's tires are gone -- Right click, save as.... 7 megs

Very Nice Driving !
Props to you Sir!
I can feel the frustration from here.
Been there (not in P1/P2, but close) and I know that feeling well. Thanks guys, for sharing.

Scott, that is some of the finest driving I have ever seen. I was really amazed at the power that Greg had out of the turns, and how much he was slowing you down elsewhere. I think it was pretty lucky for him that he didn't make a bigger mistake somewhere with as much pressure you were putting on him.

Bigger mistake? Did you say bigger mistake?
When John posts the rest of the laps I'll show you some Bigger Mistakes!
Scott, who's getting his sense of humor back...btw you guys, Greg's been racing a long time, is a really good guy, and I think drove really well under pressure...he's just the kind of guy you'd want to race against, I'm actually pretty lucky.

I wasn't sure you wanted me to share those parts of the tape, but I will.
On a side note..... braking at the 200 marker on the back straight?
.... ummmm ok. Got sack?
I'm not sure how the car stays on the track. You just have to go through there at speed to know how it is. The video doesn't do it justice.

Yeah, I noticed that too. Gutsiest move I ever saw.

What kind of motor does that VW have? I would like to see the same race but with a EG instead of a DC-2. I'm sure the VW is much lighter than the Type-R? Correct me if wrong.... Very nice vids by the way and great driving
Its nice to see that even though you are a very technical man (as shown through your in-depth "ramblings" about spring rates, etc, etc...) you are so smooth on-track! It just seems like most of the people with your mentality would be like:
"ahhh, depress clutch. Now move shift lever to next lowest gear. Oh gosh, now we have to match revolutions per minute here..."
You didnt need the clutch on half those downshifts!

Hats off to Scott for some very clean driving.
Scott, when you got the VW under braking at the first turn in the video I never expected to see him show up again. And with *no contact* as far as I can see. That's some good racing. But how'd he get there?

My pass on the inside under late braking was really marginal and carried me too deep so that I arrived at the chicanes left hander both slow and too early. Greg had an easy opportunity to aggressively come up outside me and threaten to pinch me. I knew he was there and rode the curbing rather than back off. On the way out his better pull did the rest of the job for him.
I'd say that I was overreaching with that move, and he was very strong on the counterattack. I've never raced against Greg head to head before, and had only heard that he was good. I'll admit to being surprised that he didn't cave after what I thought had been a decisive move, and as he went back by I realized that I had a tougher job on my hands than I'd thought. Then I proceeded to work harder and not smarter.
The subsequent laps are as much a lesson in how not to run a race as anything.
Where I am now mentally is "that was really good, and I learned alot." I think that Greg and I can do each other worlds of good this year.
Scott, has been whipsawed over the last week by the Joneses, Murphy's law, Joy, Dissappointment, Resignation, Renewal, and now I'm starting to get that manic excitement for the next race....

Oh that sound....
Cool vids. Now if only you wouldn't have overcooked T1 after getting by the golf! Either way, I'm sure you had fun racing against another car with similar overall speed.
Did I mention I could listen to the soundtrack of the vids all day? Got anymore?

John,
There are actually 4 off's:
The Chicane gravel trap
The exit of the Chicanes Left hander
The Whoops on the exit of T6
The Curbing on the exit of T7
Scott, who still can't watch them at home...he's working on it...

Those aren't as severe though. Or at least not as dramatic as the gravel and the "oops". Well, on second thought, T7 was a "oops" also. I'll spare you that one. These are enough. I'm mailing the VHS tape tomorrow.
PS. Almost have Victor's external stuff done. Just waiting on the in-car. I'll post a few clips of Victor soon.

Warren,
Those are (were) new Hoosiers on my car.
Scott, who almost went out on Toyo's, but decided he wanted every available advantage...

Hmm, well, that's even more impressive then. That's the sound of 2 dead hoosiers.
I'm sworn off them for life, til someone buys me a new set every weekend. Step right up. Any takers?
Hey, the gravel raining down from the chassis is always a super fun sound. I love taking a little bit of each track home with me.
