Default will 17 in rims slow me down? (performance question, do not move!)

I need new tires do I am thinking about getting new rims as well. I am thinking about getting 17in rims and kuhmo 712's in 205/40/17. The rims I am considering are Enkei RSE, Enkei RS5, and Enkei RF1. All of thoise rims are now on sale at Discount Tires for $135 ea. which makes them a good deal. I know the rims are heavier than stock, but I am thinking the tires would be light since they are only 40 profile. Where can I get the weight of these rims as well as the weight of my stock 2000 GSR rims?
Tha questions is, would they slow me down?
Thanks

the answer is yes.
been there done that, its true... you will have to buy a really really lightweight rim and tire combo to have the same acceleration as 15" rims/tires.

Enkei does make a nice lightweight wheel that I kinda like... dunno what they call it though...

The 205/40-17 Yokohama A520 tires I have weigh around 22 lbs each. Then add about 25-26lbs for the 17x7 Team Loco 143's and that's nearly 50lbs at each corner. I don't know what 17" tire are light weight ... The nice thing about the tires/wheel though is the handling...corners are way fun! Though the lack of a LSD become really apparent on tight cornering - the outside tire starts chirping, not from lack of grip but because the tranny won't allow it to spin fast enough.

just for your info the lightweight Enkei is the RP01, and I think that superhonda.com site has a page dedicated to wheel weights

Hey,

Are you sure your outside wheel chirps? Usually the inside chirps, since it's unloaded. Maybe the outside is losing traction and squealing, but it would be surprising if it were actually spinning before the inside tire?

I just pushed my car through an exit ramp this weekend, and I felt the outside tire spinning, but I attributed it to my KAAZ fighting for traction by diverting power to that tire.

Thoughts?

I'm pretty sure it's the outside tire that is skipping over the road suface - at least that is what it feel like. The chirping is not from the Yokohama A520's loss of traction (they are really sticky) - its from the tranny forcing the tire to spin too slowly...effectly dragging the tire when cornering hard. That's probably the main reason for the understeer when pushing the car to its limits (Auto-X...). Hopefully when I get a Quaiffe LSD the problem will mostly go away... BTW, I don't really notice this problem with my 15" wheels and Kumho 712 Ecstas - because they don't rally have a lot grip compared to the A520's and will slide around, squealing madly when conering hard. The kumho's are more of a drifting tire. The A520's are grippy, turn-in tires.
