Newbie Question (What mods are warranty friendly?)
I've been browsing these boards recently, reading about all the cool stuff you guys have done to your R's, what results they have had, stuff like that. The reason I wanted a new(er?) car is because I just want to make car payments (400-500 a month or whatever), and with a warranty, all the time I'm paying for my car, I'll never have to worry about repairs, thus giving me a reliable car for $500 a month no matter what.
...But I like performance. What kind of things can you do to your car to still be under warranty? I mean, Obviously you can't put a supercharger and a nitrous spray on your R and expect it to be under warranty. But, can you upgrade exhaust, or ECU? Or basically anything you do voids the warranty?
This is just some stuff I've been wondering about. Any advice or experience you guys have is appreciated
Thanks

i've been kinda wondering the same thing...i am ready to purchase an aem cai, but am reluctant for the same reason. would it be something that one could ask the dealer? maybe some dealers allow it certain modifications with out voiding the warranty...
If you do anything to the ecu it will void your warranty
Basically anything from comptech shouldn't void your warranty
you could get a jrsc installed by comptech and it won't void anything

Also, depends on the dealership you go to....they could be picky..and you MY solve your warranty honour issues by complaining to Acura Head office....Honda Canada/America.
However, I have seen cars with FI getting their warranty almost immediately voided. Your warrantly explicitly should state the extent of the mods. When you are working on the basics...I/H/E you won't lose out...as soon as you mess with the internals or if Acura determines that your mod puts more than normal strain on the engine(eg: FI) you MAY come under fire.
I've always tried to maintain a good relationship with my mechanic at Acura(well that was in Toronto.....here it kinda is hard) so, I could get away with a LOT....like a Stage-3 clutch/flywheel setup, cam gears, ignition, FPR, injectors, FC etc.

Keep in mind that the mods don't void the warranty; the warranty doesn't cover damage caused by the mods. So, for example, if you put a supercharger on your car, and the stereo goes out, the stereo is still covered by the warranty (assuming the damage wasn't caused by the supercharger, which is of course highly unlikely).
That being said, any damage caused by mods - whether they're Comptech's or anyone else's - is not covered. Acura has an agreement with Comptech in which Acura dealers can sell and install Comptech parts, but the car is NOT covered for damage caused by the mods.
Even mild mods can cause engine damage. I've heard folks from Acura HQ say that quite a few engines are damaged by aftermarket air filters that let in particles bigger than stock, for example.
If you're really concerned about warranty coverage, then don't do the mods, or limit them to items like brake pads and tires that you're going to use up anyway and aren't likely to cause damage to the powertrain.
