Hey everyone, I usually get my Honda dealership to change my oil, and I think they use some cheap stuff. I want to start doing it myself, and wanted to see what kind of oil you guys use? What brand do you use, and do you use synthetic or natural?

 

Mobil 1 although When I start not driving my car as often I think I wil switch to something a little higher like Redline

How much oil goes in on SOHC? 1.6 VTEC? I heard it was 3 and 1 quater, but can some list actual Oil amount needed.

 

Pennzoil 10w30 every 4000KM or 3000mi and on long road trips, I use Pennzoil 20w50. I use a FRAM filter @ every change.

Pennzoil High Mileage. K&N Filter. 3K neurotic oil changer.

Unless you do 5K mile oil changes, forget the Mobil 1.
And don't use Fram filters.

 

My (former) Honda dealership used Quackerstate in my car
From what I'm seeing alot of you guys recommend Mobil 1.
Which shoud I get for my d16y8? I live in WV, temps rarely go below 19 Deg. or above 100. I usually use 10W-30 but according to Mobil 1 I should 5W-30 because my car only has 30k on the motor... I do drive kinda hard btw.

1. mobil 1 synth (if you can afford it)
2. other full synth (also if you can afford it but it's cheaper than mobil 1 )
3. regular 5w30 (if you dont abuse your car)

how much oil EXACTLY goes in a d16y7?

 

I use Castrol GTX 5w30 and Fram filter.

I'm afraid to switch to Mobil 1. Two of my friends developed oil leaks after using Mobil 1.

One of them has a built turbo neon, so i could understand that the "rebuilt" motor may have had something to do with it, but the other has a brand new WRX???

Two questions.

1. Why the high mileage oil? Is the motor "older"?

2. Why no Fram filters? Are they total garbage?

10w30 for me

 

Mobil1 5w-30 and OEM filter every 2-4k miles

 

Mine is a '95 SOHC 1.6L VTEC...I changed it every 3k...I use Castrol GTX 5w30 and Walmart Supertech filters (which are good filters, check out the above bobistheoilguy link). it takes 3.5 quarts all said and done as well.

i thought it was 3 and 1/2
