Default Too bl or not to bl

What do you guys think of this?

<TABLE WIDTH="90%" CELLSPACING=0 CELLPADDING=0 ALIGN=CENTER><TR><TD>Quote &raquo;</TD></TR><TR><TD CLASS="quote">In series. However, the high BL of the DD 9500 also makes it a big midbass driver. Low Qes is the result, meaning poor deep bass reproduction. IMHO, the BL of the DD9500 series is way too high for use as subwoofers. Can they pressurize boxes? Sure - no doubt there. But are they subwoofers with strong and even deep-bass output? I don't see how, not with that low of a Qes.

For the record, I could redesign the Brahmas to have a BL up in the 30 range as well; however, IMHO it wouldn't be a viable subwoofer anymore. Qes would be way to low to get decent low-end extension out of it. Rather than try to simply maximize BL, I shoot for as much BL as I need to achieve my goals. In the case of the Brahma, I wanted a Qtc=0.707 in 1 cubic foot, with an F3 in the 40 Hz range. Lowering the Qes would mean a higher F3. And a smaller box, which also means higher air-compression distortion for a given SPL level.</TD></TR></TABLE>

I need to dig out loudspeaker cookbook, where ever it is buried What is the relationship between qes and BL? I need a refresher.

I forgot to ask my real question. I was in a rush. Why is too much BL bad?

Does the cone accelerate too fast? I read this post a couple of months ago. I have ran through different possibilities and it is not adding up. It is a good brain teaser for me though.
