DIY spring compressor
I don't want to pay a mechanic to intall my new coilovers, so i looked on ebay and found a few spring compressors. Ive found a few that are pretty cheap, and look pretty simple. Ive also found some more complicated (and expensive) Macpherson ones.
Does anybody have their own spring compressor, or know what to get?

You can simply rent them at Autozone. $40 deposit which is completely refunded when you return the compressors. I've done this twice without problems.
they may not have it in stock, however.

i just always prefer to stand on the spring when loosening the strut bolt, and have someone push down the cap/spring when reinstalling, and I've never had a spring shoot off.

sounds like a good way to catch a spring in the *****. I wouldn't like to do it, but it sure would be funny as **** to see it happen to someone else

back in the early days i used a towel and wrapped it around the spring and the top cap. then i have a person stand in front of the spring where the cap is. then just loosen the nut and have the person catch the nut with the towel they are holding. i have been doing this for years, and have not hurt anyone and the spring doesn't shoot anywhere due to the towel i have wrapped around the spring.

You guys can go to your local Harbor Freight store or http://www.harborfreight.com and buy your own set of spring compressors for about 8-10 bucks.
so far the best idea to me seems to be to go to autozone and borrow theirs. if that doesnt work ill just stand on it, haha no thanks. dont want a spring in my nuts, and my nuts in my throat.
