Default Exhaust rattling really bad...

This is on a 97 ex coupe...

I just put my header on, and had a leak, so I replaced the gasket, and tightened down the 2 bolts that connect the cat to the header, and now the leak is fixed, but my exhaust is making a terrible rattling/squeaking noise.

It happens at idle/low rpms, and when i go over bumps. I am thinkning it is hitting the heat shield.

What can I do about this??

Also, when you rev your engine, does your muffler move much?? Mine moved about 1/2" to 1" when it is reved up in neutral. Just wondering if this is normal.

Thanks!!

It should move a little but your mounts may be a little worn. As for the rattling, check the bracket that holds the header outlet to the back of the block. They crack and break sometimes and cause rattling and squeaking. They are like $15 and you can get them at the dealership.

Naw the header is straight, I jsut installed it on friday. I think it is the heat shield b/c it is coming from jsut in front of the rear wheels.

Also, it is an Apex'i WS cat-back, stock cat, and a DC sport 4-2-1 1pc SS header.

You have a few options.

1. Remove the heat sheilds. I'm sure do help with the heat, but you can run without them. I know several people whom have done that for years and never had any problems. In fact, i'm removing mine when I go tomorrow to get a custom b-pipe made.

2. Cut and bend the heat sheilds. Will not cure the problem totally but should help out a lot.

And a few more ideas are mentioned here: http://honda.hybrids.jp/forum/...b=&o=
