Default Axles - need help

'97 Accord EX 4-door 5-spd VTEC

Need to get new axles. Honda quoted me $201 for each one.

Discount auto quoted me $125 for the left side, $87 for the right side.

Would you get them from Discount Auto ?

Doing the work myself.. not sure what tools I need. I have a crappy HAYNES manual.

HELP!

Also... should I replace the complete axles ? Both boots are ripped open so I'm assuming I should. What should I expect to pay for the complete axles and what tools should I make sure I have.. thanks

Usually, the discount shops use rebuilt parts. The good thing is they come with a lifetime warrantee. The bad thing is sometimes they don't last too long. I drag race and use "Discount" shop axles. I wear or break them and return them, and get new ones.

You should be able to find them for about 100bux or less, call up some other auto parts stores as long as you get lifetime warrantee get them from a discount auto parts store.

I've purchased 3 axles from http://www.cvaxles.com. $55 each (with core swap)! No problems in two years so far...

yeah, autozone/chain store axles are your best bet. they usually have lifetime warranty and are much cheaper. the honda ones are way too expensive to justify their cost. i'm getting a new ax,e my self, $70 after core charge with lifetime warranty. how can you go wrong.

the whole axle, we also don't have sales tax in NH which keeps the cost down too.
