Can some one please help me?
I have a 1990 Civic Hatch (STD). I use it for daily driving. I also want to start getting some track time and work on my driving skills. In the next few weeks i'm doing a DPFI to MPFI swap. I'm swapping out my (POS DPFI) intake manifold and TB,ecu and distributor.I will be replacing the old set up with a 98 Civic EX manifold port matched to a 95 GSR TB, 89-91 SI ecu,and distributor. Then adding an SI injector box and add two wires to run the extra 2 injectors. Also I will be replacing my stock 4spd w/ a 5spd from a 89-91 SI. The only thing I can't figure out is which class I will have to run in? I have a 2003 SCCA Rule book. From what i've read this will keep me out of the street prepared class. Or am I just miss understanding how the mod effects my class placement? The other thing is that my driver door is damaged, and i was going to replace both with 88-89 doors. These doors, unlike my current ones,do not have door mounted seat belts. One I don't need them since I'm adding harnesses and two it drops weight from my car. But I also think this keeps me from particapating in the street prepared class.I would appreciate any clariffication of the rules.
Thank you-Jason
Thank you-Jason
I think the GSR TB will put you in Street mod. My adjustible cam gear is suposed to put me into SM, but I race in a small, local club and all of the CSP guys said it was allright if I ran with them (I keep loosing to them anyway)
and before you get the new doors, measure them. I believe the 90-91 doors are longer than the 88-89, so they won't fit. Not 100% positive, but it's worth double checking before spending the money.

The solo II rules are pretty complicated but as a rule, it is a better idea to read the rules and pick a class, THEN make modifications. It is VERY easy to find yourself in a hot class - or even illegal for any class - if you do it the other way 'round.

I'm pretty sure your legal for SP but I've never ran it so I'm not totally up on all the rules. So check again but heres my interpretation:

Intake free = legal.

This one I'm not sure on but if your allowed to run a Tec-II with a crank-trigger ignition then an alternate distribtor should be legal. (check that)

Sounds like the necessary wiring for the allowed aftermarket engine management = legal.

All 88-91 civics were on the same line in the SP listing last thing I knew. = legal.

I believe all the mechanical/electrical is legal in sp. The doors are covered in the update/backdate allowances except for outside trim. The rule is that any exterior trim has to be correct for a given model. If a rubstrip or something is different from one model year to another then it has to be changed to match the car or the car changed to match the door. The idea is that any year of a given model can be made into any other year, but it has to be a full conversion. This is a minor point and most regions could not care less about matching trim. Go to a big event and it could be a cause for dsq.
To true. HPDE's only want a safe, not too loud, car. If autox is in the car's future, keeping inside the rules makes life easier while keeping the car in a class it can be competitive in.
As always, BEST is defined by what you really want to do. I would recommend talking to the people who run the HPDE's you want to attend. See what they have to say. Remember that when first learning, reliable is more important than fast.
