Default oil pick up bolts, keep breaking them

ok so i bought this motor and the oil pan was dented so i took off the pan and the pick up was dented so i got a new one, so i was puttting it back on and when i was torqueing them down to 17 ftlbs i broke hte stock studs, then i went down to ace and got another stud and one bolt, and i cut the head off the bolt and used it as a stud, i tried to torque those back down to 17, but both of them broke.

im confused, anyone had problems like this before or what, am i using hte right torque

help

no the mounting bolts say 8, but for the actually tube itsself, my 2 books say 17 for the nuts. cause there are 2 nuts for the tube itself, and 2 mounting bolts, my book says 8 for the mounting bolts and 17 for the tube nuts

i dont have a problem with not making them torqued down, but im just afraid the vibration might shake it loose and if it comes loose, thats no good

what i would do, since u keep snapping those studs, is put a little of the light strength thread locker on the new studs and then just snug the nuts down...but of course not 17 ft lbs...jus feel for it u know. It doesnt need to be super tight but just snug and the thread locker should keep them from coming off.

17 ft-lbs sure sounds like alot for a 10mm bolt. i don't have my manual in front of me, but i don't think that is the right spec.

Yea the book says 17 lbs.
But all the other accys. that bolt to the block are like 8 -9 or 13 lbs.
Oil pan bolts, oil pump bolts, oil press. sender, and it's the same aluminum. So i guess honda printed the wrong spec.
