Default Should a 92 Civic Si be able to beat a 95 Z24?

My buddy has a Z24, no modifications, and when I race him in my 92 Civic Si, no modifications, he pulls away from me at about 100km (60ish miles and hour). I know my driving is a little shady, so I'm wondering if its that? Or is a Z24 just a faster car at the end of the day? I'm just getting sick of listening to him... must beat him... please help...

Z24 is faster, you need more hp to beat him. You could go turbo or hybrid, or build your D16z6. I have a 92si and a B20b on a stand in the garage. Well, at least whats left of it...

Spend some cash and get a good 4-2-1 header, full catback exhaust and an AEM intake. Then go race him and the result should be totally different.

The sohc vtec motor is a good engine, just work with it a bit and you'll be surprised at how quick you can get it.

Thanks, I don't plan on any engine swaps until I finish school, and am pulling some larger coin, so I think I'll tweak the one I have. What would be the best exaust for someone on a limited budget?

Some people may laugh, but dynomax makes a full catback exhaust for your car. It is cheap and it will perform well. That way you'll have some cash to do an AEM intake and/or DC 4-2-1 header.

emphasis on cheap. I had a dynomax on my 91 Si. This "fully aluminized" system rusted to the point of falling off in about 18 months. maybe their systems for newer cars are more durable. but if you get a dynomax you might want to paint it or something.
