Default JDM tranny owners. 4.7FD

got a quick Q. just got the motor put in and when i put the clutch in and when its in gear, it tends to make a whining sound kind of like reverse, but not really. a friend mentioned cuz its geared higher. now can anyone tell me so i dont keep driving if it is bad. i am using an Exedyclutch, and toda flywheel. everything was installed by the book.

and also once in a while it will sound like its rubbing (like sandpaper) in a rotational motion. could my bearing happen to slip off, or maybe get misaligned while i was mating the trans to the block?

thanx

it can also be the clutch , some clutches atten to have that type of sound each time that you push the pedal .

There is a lot more resanence in my tranny with my ATS. Maybe higher gearing creates a "whine".

I have almost the same exact tranny setup as you along with exedy clutch and Spoon flywheel. I get the same exact noise, kinda like a creaking sound when i press and depress the clutch. Never thought much of it but now that I think about it, it started after I put the 4.7 FD in. Odd.

OT.... how do you like the Toda flywheel other than the whining that is happening.

Back on topic, local transmission shop told me that my aftermarket clutch made the whinning noise, turns out the clutch made a slight noise, most noise was coming from the spun Throw out bearing... be careful, have a local reputable transmission shop listen to it. They might be able to pinpoint noise. Good luck

Bearings are bad. Mine did the same thing. It sounded as if I was in reverse, even when rolling in neutral. I dont believe shorter gearing has any effect on that noise.

Jack the car up so both front wheels are off the ground. and spin the wheels. You may hear a clunky or not so normal sound.

hmm. ok, i will check it out. the throw out bearing is brand new. i might have gotten screwed up when i tried to mate the tranny to the block. i will try to get the noise pinpointed, cuz the last thing i want to do is take that tranny off.

yea first thing to check is the wheel spinning thing I mentioned. If I remember correctly, it was the mainshaft bearing on mine that was bad. I was told it was all rusty and tore up looking when they cracked open my tranny. The sound mine made was the exact sound the reverse gear made, except twice as loud.
