89-91 civic hatchs for STS, WOW
I just got back from the SEDiv event #2. I placed pretty good for myself in my 00 si in 6th position behind 5 people in 4th gen hatches. I was pleased with my results there.
We were fortunate to have enough time for fun runs and one of my competitors was nice enough to let me take out his 89 si. I have driven another one before on a fun run but this was only the second time in one. I was 1.4 seconds faster in that car than I was mine and couldn't believe how fast it was. I never would have guessed that those cars are really that much faster.
I may have to beg for a co-drive in one for peru now and maybe even nationals.

ED7 Civics are like a secret that keeps itself. When I try to tell people how fast they actually are for autocross purposes, nobody ever believes me.
This is why I've stopped running my own car and am currently co-driving a buddy's HS 1990 Si - not only does it turn out faster raw times than my GS 2000 Si, but it also has a better PAX index to boot.

No kidding, Ryan -- WOW is right. Those Civics were impressive, very impressive.

For only the second time in that model car, that's incredible. You could be dangerous with more seat time.
One thing that became clear to me after everything was finished this weekend -- I need to run some more negative camber, especially up front. I seem to have a harder time keeping pace when courses like today's are open, fast, and flowing. I could definitely benefit from better bite at turn in, and better grip/hold throughout the turn. All you need to do is look at the outside edges of my front tires and it all becomes perfectly clear. Don't know why this is just occuring to me now...
Guess I'm a slow learner.
Congrats to you, Ryan, you drove well this weekend. I know I've got quicker times in me and my car, but those 4th gen Civics are just plain awesome.

Hehe... And you wonder why they excluded CRX's from a bunch of classes.
I'm wanting to see how Chris does in SM with his hatch, currently looking for one for STS myself. Good to hear other 4th Gen's kicking butt.

Personally, I dislike cones very much... Would have won by over a half second, but instead lost by about the same amount. GGGRRRRRRRRRRR!
Congrats to my codriver Brian though....his best run was only 7 tenths behind me, by far the closest he's been all year!!

That car will probably be illegal for ST in 2004. No more update/backdate powertrain swaps. Just giving you a heads up before you build something that will kick you to SM (or CSP).

Hi yall,
Yeah, the 88-91 Civics are great autocross cars. I think I've found my car for the next many years for autocrossing. And the hybrids will certainly be outlawed next year, but the 89-91 Si will be alive and kicking strong!
See you all in DC!!!!

Subject: Nationally Competitive 91 Civic Si for sale (rust free
southern car)
I am offering for sale my 1991 Civic Si. The car is black inside and
out, very menacing looking! Recent paint job is in good condition,
body is straight and rust free. Mouldings were painted with body.
Interior is exceptionally nice. Windows are tinted. Coilover setup
with 350f/450r springs, 22mm adjustable Suspension Techniques rear
swaybar, KYB AGX adjustable struts w/rear perch modified for
additional height adjustability, strut brace, Gunmetal Konig Holes
(10.4lb.)and virtually new 15 inch Azenis, 4-2-1 header, cold air
intake, free flow filter, 2.25" exhaust from cat back, custom free-
flow resonator, big *** shiny muffler with removeable and adjustable
baffle, sounds great! 90k miles on motor. New crossdrilled rotors and
Axxis Metalmaster pads. Projector headlights, or stock if you prefer.
Cornerweighted, dyno tuned, spit shined. Very competitive, placed 1st
or 2nd every single race entered, TTOD for fendered cars several
times, top PAX frequently. 2nd place by the closest of margins at
Petersburg Pro Solo. Still has A/C, CD, etc. Remains comfortable
(relatively...) as a street car. Selling because I have another Si
to build, or contact me if you are looking for a solid, rust free
stocker to start with, fairly cheap.
Asking $5,000. Buy it quick before I change my mind!

Jesus Tapdancing Christ. I could buy this car (which is better than my CRX in every way) for less than I have already spent on my car. God. Damn.
after being a little rattled by the toledo results i had lost a little of my confidence that the 5th gen cars were the ones to have in sts. since getting home though, i've taken a look at a few things on the car. i'm not going to go into to details, but a few things have been "straightened" out. the car was good enough last weekend to take fast pax by .7 seconds with the likes of daddio, solomon, and salerno at a local event (though it did help that daddio broke). i guess we'll see just how much closer i am to chris come the oscoda pro. whee!

I just spoke with STAC and it's almost definite engine swaps (that originally didn't come with the car) will be illegal for next year. So Hybrids are out in 2004. Enjoy it while it lasts

Unfortunately, Pros are a horrible gauge for how far ahead or behind you may be at a SoloII setting.
Get on the waiting list for the Peru tour, as that's the closest surface/experience you'll have to Topeka.

With the cars so closely matched, I think it's an OK way to gauge it. It's not like the ITR vs WRX where the WRX is going to put 3-7 tenths on the ITR right off the start. With Nate's vs Chris's, it shouldn't be more than a tenth, if that....

Hahah, never heard that one before.
Hahah, never heard that one before.
I have three questions:
1. Is the 130lb difference between the 89 and 90 cars that big of a deal?
2. Do you think the 92-95 Civic Si/Ex is an underdog compared to the 4th gen?
2a. If I decide on a 92-95, is there a big enough difference between the 5th Gen Si and Ex to make it worth my while to search for an Si over the much more readily available EX?

Still, the first 300' or so is a pure drag strip, and after that you only have about 20-25 seconds of actual turns compared to 50-60 seconds of SoloII turns.

seriously everyone is on this 4th gen civic hype for STS....what about the underdog honda.....the Integra RS. I think this car will be pretty competitive in STS....i came in right around 2400 lbs....make more power than 4th and 5th gen civics, and have quicker steering.
i will have to say that I disagree with the whole civic hatch overdog in sts theory....there are other cars out there that are faster. some of them aren't even hondas....i can think of a certain blue celica GTS in my region that gives me hell every event.
