Default Allright, decided, 89 CRX with b18a, now some ???s

Ok, I've posted here a few times about a swap from me and my friends CRX.
The car is a 89 CRX Si with no motor. We decided on a b18a. Now

What year b18a should we get? We want to be able to smog the car.
What required modifications are we gonna need to get the b18a in?
What price range is a good one for a complete b18a? We found one for 1800, but I think thats way to high.

So any help would be great. And no I dont need to know "what 1/4 times I get" can I beat a viper? lol. So that infomation above and any more would be great. Yes I searched also. But cut me some slack if I missed some threads.

try to get a b18a2. it came off off the 92-93 integra. 140hp compared to the 90-91 at 130hp. your car is a cable type tranny so this is a plus for you.
you'll need a B series mount kit HASport HCP etc. modified shift linkage things like that. it shoud pass smog fine b/c its a usdm motor but a tune up shouldnt hurt befor you smog it.

I think you mean the b18b which came off off the 94-00 integra's that have 140. So any 90-93 b18a will be the same.

I have a 97 B18b w/Y1 cable tranny that I used to pass the state ref (BAR sticker). Motor's out of the car and comes with 90-91 teg axles and PR4 ecu (non obd). A friend of mine supposedly bought this from me but its been 6 months and he's been pushing it off. I will ask him again if he still wants it and if you're interested, I'm selling it for $1500. Motor has low miles and here are a list of what you'll need to get this on your CRX. Intermediate shaft (90-91 teg), rear bracket (90-91 teg), mpfi wiring, alternator, clutch, hoses (radiator), mounts, shift linkage. I already replaced the waterpump, oil pump, timing belt when I dropped the motor and used it for about 6K miles. Motor originally had less than 50K miles. I bought the motor from Japan Parts and can get paperwork on it if needed.

That other guy is wrong. In 1992, they changed to different cams in the b18a. My 92 b18a has 140 horses as opposed to 130. 90-91 motors has 130, 92-93 had 140, and i think the b18b MIGHT have 142.

whats up if u wont to beat or even come close to beating a viper you better go with something a lot more powerful than a b18a. if i was you to beat a viper get a b18c gs-r put a big *** turbo no cheap one like t3/t4 try g33 or t 55 these are a couple of the biggest. also get a fogger NOS system just enough till your turbo kickes in do not do this till u rebuild the whole top and bottom end of the b18c, or it will blow. after u put around 25,000 into the block the viper will smell your exhaust.the b18c gs-r only costs 3,300 for the kit its fast even with out all of the add ons but it wont beat a viper. good luck be safe .

now correct me if im wrong guys but is it true that if you use a 92-93 b18a motor in the 88-91's that you have to either get a conversion harness or.. get the dizzy, injectors, and ecu from a 90-91? because the 90-91 are obdo and the 92-93 are obd1 if you guys could double check that for me and make sure im not talkin outa my *** thanks.

thats true, the 90-91 are obd0 and teh 92-93 are obd1, so i would recommend trying to find a 90-91 b18a so its easier, or else u convert to obd1 or change the motor to a obd0, which is what i did

Right, if you intend to install an OBD-1 engine into an OBD-0 car, either the engine has to be backdated to the chassis or the chassis has to be updated to the engine. In this case, it is easier to backdate the engine to OBD-0 specs with the distributor, injectors, and ECU.
