Because it is sort of "slang" in refernce to any 1992-1995 Civic even though it is actually incorrect.

To further answer your question and Tom you can correct me if I am wrong, EG and EK are the jdm versions of the EH and EJ. People love saying EG/EK civic or hatch. So as Tom said it's just "civical" slang.

I'm assuming by this that you lost the argument because you thought the correct chassis code was EG from reading so many posts here, eh?
I used to have a nice saying in my signature that went something like this:
I do not condone the use of incorrect chassis codes such as calling every 1992-1995 Civic "EG" when in fact they are not "EG" hatches at all. I own an EH2, but if I have to call it EG on H-T just for people to understand that I drive a 1992-1995 hatch then I guess I have no choice."
I'm thinking the last part was different and included the word "convenience" or some ****.
"EG6" is probably the worst wrong code to call a USDM 1992-1995 Civic. "EG6" is actually an overseas version of the Civic hatchback that came with a B16A, moonroof, etc. called the SiR or SiRII if it had ABS and other options like color-matched moldings.
