EF harness mounting
guys with efs, where do you attach the left and right belts to on your cars?
I see a place for the belt mount on the left side but its a bit far back and would mess up the geometry.
Some pics of the pieces you made or bought, and suggestions would be great
its a 5 point harness, 2 up to the cage, the submarine belt, then the two sides

its a real narrow area between the seat and the side of the car, so i am worried that may not work. There would have to be a piece attached to the floor that went directly up and the harness would have to mount to that I would think.

yes. you cant have a 5 point harness function as intended using mounts for a 3-point belt that uses an entirely different mechanism as well as restraint.

obviously...I have a 4 pt harness...used stock seatbelt pts for left and right side lap belts and rear seat stock mounting pts for shoulder belts...for 5 pts the remaining middle belt is usually mounted on the floor paired with a heavy duty plate (like one suggestion on this thread). All he asked is where to put the left and right side lap belt...

This mounting is wrong... wrong... wrong.... i suggest you change it.
You never mount to the rear stock seat belt mounting points, even if you are using a rollbar.

I have some pics but WTDR is down at the moment, and as to using stock locations - 90/91 have door mount seatbelts so thats not possible (i also have a 91) I basically copied some of the other H4 cars out here in the WCHC, IM me and I can email you the pics if you'd like.
for the sub belt, i drilled through the floor and mounted an eye hook/snap ring set-up. for my laps (i have '91 too) i mounted the laps to the seat attachment points. aka, inbetween the seat and the floor. i am aware that my lap set-up is incorrect tho. so ill be picking up more eyehooks, snap rings and backing plates....

When I was at the Speed WC race at Limerock even though there was a fully SCCA Pro spec cage installed (obviously) one of the nicest bmw's there had the shoulder harness attached to the rear seatbelt mounting points. Just thought I'd share.
How come it's wrong?

1. Belt is too long. Short is better. The weave stretches more than you can imagine in an accident so keep them short. Rally cars seem to be an exception, but I have yet to figure out why (maybe they want the stretch for the occassional plunge off a cliff?).
2. Geometry is very often wrong - what are the chances the rear belt mount is straight back along the centerline of the seat and at the correct angle vertically (ie does not attach too low).
Why do you have a harness and no rollover protection?

You dont want the belt attached very low behind the seat, could cause spinal compression in an impact.

i have roll protection. and although its not the safest way to go about it, some clubs will let u run with a harness w/o roll protection.
