local writeup on Auto-X
Nice, this is the type of crap that goes into our local Hippie town paper (it's a letter to the editor posted the day after last weekend's race):
<TABLE WIDTH="90%" CELLSPACING=0 CELLPADDING=0 ALIGN=CENTER><TR><TD>Quote »</TD></TR><TR><TD CLASS="quote">Last weekend, an unfortunate choice of location for an auto racing event defiled what is arguably Eugene's most enchanting new attraction. The bike path extention near Valley River Center leads to a tranquil wetland where you can almost always spot a great blue heron, hear madrigals of birdsong and, in this season, see ducklings with the mallards and goslings with the geese. On lucky days you can see nutria (side note: for those of you who don't know a nutria is basically a huge rat) feeding, fish jumping and lizards slithering. In the early morning, you can hear bullfrogs as well. But this past weekend, they were drown out by booming public address system, clearly audible over half a mile away, and the gunning of motors engaged in an autocross in Valley River's west parking lot, racing through a zigzag course for the benefit of a handful of spectators and the drivers themselves. Hey, guys, fun is fun, but next time please pick a more appropiate place to make all that noise. Sylvia Hart. </TD></TR></TABLE>
It's so hard to get good parking lots around here, we had just gotten this one back. Now, who knows.
