anybody have any problems w/ Kyokugen Lug nuts???
Just got my new tires put on and they really overtorqued the lugs...now the problem is, the lock that puts the lugs on has flared out at the edges and it doesn't grip the lugs, so I can't get them off. the lugs themselves seem to be fine, except maybe the few we tried. I just got them 2 weeks ago and this has me concerned in getting a new set...
I called the place that I got them from and they will ship out a new set no problem, just wanted some feedback from other users...
I'm just not looking forward to having problems getting them off, don't want anything to happen to my spoon wheels that are being held on by them

I haven't had any problems, but then, I wouldn't let ANYONE take an airgun ANYWHERE NEAR my volks...especially the lazy folk at a tire place. That sucks that your key got flared, god knows how long they held the trigger on the impact gun before they let go.."WIRRRRRRRRRCHUGACHUGACHUGACHUGACHUGACHUGA..." Did they get them all on tightly? If they flared the key, i doubt it happend on the very last one, could be that some of your wheels aren't even held on tightly...i'd be very careful. I think you can get a new key alone, but you might wanna do the full set of lugs. Always bring hand tools and a torque wrench when you get stuff done, and INSIST that you get to be the one who torques the lugs. NEVER let an airgun junkie screw with wheels that you care about.
I ordered a new set and got the place to pay for them...so we'll see...
I did double check the lugs and they are all on tight, surprisingly...
but the damn lock is definitely flared and that was the problem...
SO, I'll have a new set of lugs, with some extras that hopefully won't be damaged...I wanted to get a new set to be sure...
I did tell them not to use an airgun, and made sure that they knew that the wheels on the car were worth about $500 a piece...but they probably did it anyway..lazy employees...

Yeah, it sucks how often people will lie to your face about stuff. I'm actually surprised that the key got screwed up, it seems like a decent piece of metal...i'll be sure to take extra care with mine, hope they come off ok! at least they're open-ended, you might be able to get some penetrant in there, but be sure to clean off the studs afterwards, don't want lubed nuts. Well, not on yer wheels, anyway.
i've had my kyokugen lugs on for a few months and haven't had any problem as of yet...they actually come in a set of 20 lugs so you'll have 4 extra lug nuts as back ups. but if u hold one stock lug and the kyo lug u can really feel the weight difference.

seriously, i take my wheels to a place in town that specializes in big fat 20" chrome wheels and they are very careful. not a very "performance oriented" shop but that is OK. and i don't let anybody put my wheels on my car. i just take the wheels off and take it there and have them mount and balance. i then take the wheels home and mount myself with good old 80 ft-lbs.

yeah, cuz all of us here have 4 lug conversions
you'd be surprised how easy those air guns are to use. From what I've heard, once using them, a mechnic will never go back to wreching by hand. I lovely mechanic decided to air gun a pressure plate bolt into my aluminum flywheel and stripped all the threads. He then decided to fix it by cross threading the steel bolt into the flywheel. One month later, bolt shot out and punched a hole in the tranny. Whooopdeeedo!!!!!!!
I jack my car up on jackstands now and take the wheels off, borrow the minivan and take them to costco for balancing. Yes, I'm ****. Also, the kyukugen nuts have been working fine.

Ive used air tools for a while now... I KNOW when not to throw something together w/ airtools. Most airguns have about a 400 lb max limit on them at 90 psi. I can see how they messed up your nuts.
Start doing your own stuff yourself... you WILL learn a lot & have the satisfaction that you did it. I never knew how to change oil about 2 yrs ago and now Im swapping engines and rebuilding trannies... who would have thought!

I use a torque wrench and anti-sieze on the threads to make sure the nuts don't get frozen. Some dope used a nuematic wrench on my car and the studs had to be cut off with a torch when I had a flat.
Have your mechanics do likewise. They usually will if you request it, and watch them when they mount the tires.

I usually do things myself, but I don't have a way to mount and balance my own tires...how often do I need to do that...that's the only reason that i took it there...
I shouldn't have a problem once I get the new lock key...most of the lugs are still in perfect shape, but I couldn't get them off due to the key being messed up...
I'm also hoping that they aren't on too tight as to where I can't get them off...then I'll really be pissed...I should have the replacements by monday or tuesday, so we'll see
thanks for the posts guys.

If you look on the back of the Koys box:
"Do Not Use Air/Impact Wrench!
Use Hand Torque Wrench 88-118Nm"
Hey, it could have been worse!

Heh, another 4-lug intruder here (see sig).
I haven't had a problem either, but I'm sure if an airhead with an air wrench messing with mine, I would. Anywho, there is not a big difference in weight between OEM lugs and these. I got them for my GS-R because of the 'security', at least I hope. Which leads me to my question...... will a 6-point wrench really f*ck up these 7-point lugs if tampered with by a theif? By the way I DO have these lugs. Thanks.

well, I have finally gotten the lugnuts removed...the new lock didn't do $#!T, so I had to rely on just getting them off....
Took some time but just hammered a 6 point lug on there as much as possible and torqued those damn lugs off!!!
I received a new set, but I'm not going to use them anymore...not too happy that this happened ( I know why it happened, but still doesn't settle well w/ me)
Anyone have the mugen lugs or know of a set (in black) that has only one lock per wheel and is a little easier on my piece of mind?
thanks guys!

http://www.tsmoly.com/ts7.htm use this with whatever you finaly run up the studs.
The Rays are also noticeably lighter, are larger in size, closed end and are more expensive at $125-150 a set. Very hard to find, as well. When I get them in, they are usually gone within a few days.

do you have any experience w/ them or have you heard about them? I don't want to have this problem again (not as if anyone is ever going to touch my lugs again, but to be safe) as I'm sure you can understand...
I wasn't sure who else made black lug nuts besides mugen....
anyone have any feedback on skunk nuts
thanks for the reply

I tried some of the Rays lugs and barely got them off. I went back to the original lugs my TE37's came with. It was like the Dura lugs embedded themselves in the wheel. Has anyone experienced this problem with the Rays? I am very leary of using them again. One more question do the Rays lugs come in different end style, ie ball type, wedge, maybe that had something to do with it, although they look pretty close to the factory Rays geometry.
The Rays do come in the acorn and tapered. The tapered are what you need for Spoon, Volks or Regamasters. You may want to make sure those are the ones you got. If so, there should not be any problems with them seating. Check them out.
