its also not the greatest quality stainless steel...
most used jdmitr headers i've seen do not look like other header of higher quality ss after some use...
but who cares...as long as it works and thats what that optional oem shield is for

Yeah they will tarnish over time.
Also:
They can be modified too. Ive heard of people taking apart the collector, removing the inner ring and re assembling with smoother welds so it will flow better. Also Ive seen people weld around the ouside of the pipes where they mount to the flange and then port match it to the head.

It will rust. If Jet Hot is an option go ahead and do it. Its worth the while. If you got the heatsheild then i wouldnt worry about it.
High temp paint cans do the trick?
Bomb that ****** every 3 months or so and youll be straight IMO.
Jet Hot would be the way i went if its an option

True. Everything will bond to oxygen if heated up enough even titanium.

yessir, it will. now lower your car a real lot, smash the header, then sell it to me cheap...
(can't blame a guy for trying, can ya?)

I just bought one, and I'm wondering if I should get it jet coated before I install it.

The OEM JDM ITR header is a 400 series stainless steel, so it is still magnetic unlike the 300 series stainless steels. If you are referring to a stainless DC JDM header rusting then you must be referring tothe manifold and collector flanges??? Those are carbon steel and will rust. But the hytech stainless header also uses carbon steel flanges that rust so it's only an appearance thing.
So yes, the header will rust after a while but not nearly at the same rate as say bare mild steel tubing. The $150 for ceramic coatng is a good idea but you will loose the stock look and some guys need that look to pass inspection.

Damn, I worded my question poorly. I bought the JDM ITR header. I know the DC one rusts. Just wondering the the JDM one will too.

I think this is getting out of hand... All we are talking about is some minor surface oxidation. Its not like these headers are being eaten through. The only time I would have that conncern is if I lived on a salt flat.
It sucks if you want your engine to look nice but its something that we will have to live with untill titanium headers are made cheap. I think the titanium exhaust on our aircraft starts to bond with oxygen somewhere around 750 degrees celcius so.
