Default Painting My Wheels

I got these Slips a while back, and I'm not down with the black look so I decided to try bronze. I used Duplicolor truck/van color "Desert Tan". I'm pretty pleased with the results so far. I just cleaned the wheel really good with that simple green automotive pre-mixed junk, then lightly scuffed the surface with steel wool. I blew off all the lint and put aprox. 4 to 5 coats on. This is the results of wheel number one.

Note-the white specks are the metallic flake in the paint.

Question to those that have also painted wheels. Did you clear coat them at all, and what kind did you use if you did? Thanks

-Chris

i painted my wheels on my mr2 black. i put about 5 coats on and i believe i used the same paint as you. i did use clear coat. made the black look a lot nicer. make sure the wheels have had plenty of time to dry before putting them on. i put mine on only after a day and wished i could have waited. little tiny pin head sized chips come out but its not too bad. thats the thing that sucks about painted wheels yourself. id just get them powdercoated...

Well, I'm gonna get the OEM wheels re-done by a pro cause I dont want to take the chance of messing them up. I got these used for cheap so I can play with them.

Yeah, I gotta get them all done first, then I think I'm going to put a clear coat on them. After that I'll probably wait till I find a good deal on getting the OEM wheels re-done before putting them on. Thanks for the compliments though!
