Can I use K&N Filter Cleaner to clean my Comptech Icebox filter?
If you haven't bought the K&N Filter kit yet, you could always get the real Unifilter stuff.
There was a thread about it awhile back and you can purchase the Unifilter kits at most motorcycle shops. I'm going to see if this is true sometime this month (this weekend is work/car prep for Summit Point next weekend).

You need to clean that crap Oscar. Hell, if you need to and don't have the solution, you can come up to my place for another visit and I'll do it for/with you.
It is amazing just how much junk is trapped in the filter AND it should be cleaned at the same time as your oil change interval (according to Comptech.) I do mine at every 3K miles. Of course I also invested in a second filter so I always have another handy.

I certainly would try, if I didn't have the cleaner already.

I remember Comptech saying you can use the cleaner, but they recommended still using the foam specific filter oil since it's supposedly different from the K&N cotton filter oil.
I wouldn't clean it if you don't need to. It actually filters slightly better with a bit of dirt in it. Don't clean it every 3000 miles. I'd do it every 9000-12000 miles.
considering the filter flows better when well oiled... hmm. I dont know how one would document that other than doing it. its simple dynamics really, when the foam is oiled the molecules can pass through it with less resistance. use the K/N stuff if you have nothing else, shoot; it works fine. if you have comptechs stuff...
great. just keep er clean and enjoy happy filtration.

Where did you find this logic from??? Please elaborate on this, I would love to hear it.
Why dont you just use the uni cleaner and oil?? It can be had at any motorcycle shop.

K&N actually used to claim this but, Comptech suggests cleaning it at Every Oil change interval.

You are thinking of the K&N filter and thus your explanation does not apply since we are talking about the Comptech UNI foam filter.
Pssst, I don't care what K&N used to claim BTW, More dirt on the filter element does Not make it flow better. Their dirty filtering idea is questionable as well.

I know, but UNI brand was mentioned and I couldn't get it close to me so I wanted to double check. No harm in making sure :-)

Yes you can. I've been telling people for years you can use the following 3 things to clean a K&N, Comptech and pretty much any reusable filter.
1.) Comptech (UNI) Cleaner kit (From Comptech or buy the actual UNI kit at any Motorcycle shop)
2.) K&N Cleaner kit (All K&N does differently is add a Red Dye to the Oil to make it easier to see what areas where covered)
3.) Clean it with Water and Dawn Dish Detergent, re-oil it with a light weight oil like 5W30 (put a thin layer of oil in a pan and roll the filter in it)

Be warned about putting the K&N oil on the foam filter, it will run out of the filter and will get everywhere and will not filter as well as long. It makes a mess.
I would go with Mike on the cleaning of it. And good call on the rolling the foam filter in the light oil to re-oil it.
