B
it is a stick
it is cheaper
probably better gas mileage
an extra 18K miles (difference between the two cars listed) is nothing for a honda/toyota/subaru (great reliable cars)
the only disadvantage maybe higher insurance (but check that to make sure)

A, just because I drive to office with AT so more relax and rainy, winter day without thinking.
Only sunny day I drive the R and play on the way to and back from office.

Dave,
surly you can't be serious... Subaru does not even come close to the reliability and quality (level of engineering and manufactring) of a Honda or a Toyota.
My WRX left much to be desired.

REALLY???? Wow. I am really surprised. My thoughts of Subaru were based mainly from Consumer Reports. What was wrong with your car? (not to hi-jack this thread)

For your only car?
Honestly, I'd suggest finding more options. Of the two you've listed, I'd probably lean toward the Civic since it is less expensive and has a manual transmission. However, the high rate of theft would make me uneasy about buying it (or any other Honda product for that matter).

Thefts not a big deal for me
As it is just a beater I have full insurance
If it gets stolen it gets stolen
It's not like its an R and I'd have a really hard time finding another
