gsr in civic?
I was going to get a GSR for 6k or less, but I think I'm going to ditch that idea, and am not going to persue an older civic si either. I want to buy a cheap *** civic dx or something like that and probably drop a GSR motor in it and ls transmission. I would go H22 but I don't want to spend that much. What year civic should I get? I want an older hatch, 1990+. What other stuff do I need to have replaced or modified to drop a gsr motor and ls tranny in?
well your EG (92-95) civics are your best bet I think. Easy to swap, everything flows nicely and I think the chassis and look are better then other civic. well in hatchback at least. EG swap are suppose to be pretty damn easy from what I heard, I do alot of EK stuff, so im not sure, but I think you should go EG GSR.
Here is a better place check it out they have guidlines and stuff good info. And the search button is user freindly type in what you want info on and info should pop up

less demand, not a b-series.

ditto...the b18c motor drops right in,
the H22 is also a good swap, as mentioned, it's "cheaper" than a GSR, and there are mount kits readily available too...
IMO, with both swaps, I think the eg chassis would be a cost efficient choice

i guess i'm the only one who caught this......LS is NOT geared for the GSR's power and torque gains......go with the gsr tranny........this will be a really good setup when you do it.......search will help you out ALOT too

Hmm, I thought the GSR trannys gears were too close together, and the ls was longer? Anyways, I think I found a Civic hatch DX for 1k. I don't remember the year, it was in the early 90's. Will that work?

yes it is, but gsr tranny is made for the vtec. LS tranny isnt geared for vtec =\

i really wouldnt suggest geting an ls tranny, why not stick with the gsr one, a friend of mine had an ls tranny, n it litterally slowed his motor down, why not one with closer gears, lets a an itr, if not an itr then a b16. i never really notice and understood, how much of a difference a tranny could make. i used to have a gsr tranny, but i just recently got an itr, and i love it to death. if u do decide to get a b16 tranny why not get an lsd while your at it, every little bit counts.

When comparing the engine, tranny, and ECU costs alone the H22a might appear to be cheaper, but after adding in the mount kit, axles, etc. the price will probably be higher for the H22A over the GS-R swap.
The H22A would be awesome, but this guy seems to need a more simple set-up.
Looks like this will turn into yet another ******* H22a vs. Bwhatever topic.
The H22A would beat the B18C1 for sure of both are running at full potential, but the H22A is a more invloved swap.
As far as weight goes, the H series is supposed to be about 80lbs. heavier than the B series. It's not the biggest deal if you're a drag-only type of person, and that extra weight can be overcome by a well-planned suspension if you're a corening type of guy.

I agree about the looks too.
