i need to work on my other motor and need a engine stand. my question is are all engine stands universal? or is there a specific one for honda motors? also how much do they cost? thanx guys

I got mine at the local auto parts store for like 35 bucks and it has worked great.

 

so basically i can go to autozone and buy one and it will work , are the bolt holes that line up to the block adjustable? does anyone know how much they are at autozone or at pepboys? i would order online but by the time after shipping is done it will bee too much

also the one on harbor freight for 49 bux is only 750 lbs is that enough? or do i need to get the 1000 lbs one?

 

I picked one up at a local auto store. They're pretty much universal. The only problem I had was getting bolts that would fit.

If it is just for a Honda 4 cylinder engine, that should be more than enough. My d16 weighs a whopping 140lbs. so unless the B's and H's weigh 610lbs. more, you should be safe using it for any of those.

cant you use the bolts that gointo the block? i assume that the engine stand utilizes the bolt holes on the block that the tranny would usually use am i wrong? and if it does use those holes then couldnt u use the bolts that hold the tranny and the motor together?

 

Usually the tranny bolts are too short to work...and you need to pick up four bolts at the hardware store, with some washers. Pick up grade 8 bolts so they wont brake and drop your engine on the ground.

 

ah that sux i hate runnin around for more ****. u would think u could get that at the store u buy the lift from. so what now i have to go around carrying my block from hardware store to hardware store test fitting them? man that blows

lol, just a thought, but maybe you could bring the bolts that go in your block instead to match the threading?

 

welli wold like to do that but i would be too worried that even then the bolts wont be perfect fitting. i dont even know what length to get i dont want them to be too long or too short u know. just bringing the tranny bolts for reference u still take a change on getting a bolt that isnt the perfect thread pattern u know.

 

Open up your ******* helms and check the size and pitch for the bolts that connect the tranny to the block. Add some length. DONE.

Go to auto store. Buy bolts. Buy engine stand. Go home.

 

I went through this same bullshit a few months ago...Good ******* luck finding the bolts, it took me two week to find them...And when I did they weren't cheap.

I got my stand at AutoZone for $49.95.

I got the bolts at Do It Center. They were over $5 bucks a piece, but 17yr old kids work there and ask you how much the sign said...Like I'm going to tell him $5 bucks, I said a dollar.

Make sure above all you check the threading. They'll have your size alright, but it's the different threads you need to examine. They have corse, fine and extra fine. I believe fine is the same as the tranny bolts, so try that. Don't be a dumbass like me and force corse threads into your block and watch metal shavings come out...

I want to say the bolts are probably M8x1.25.

Its not that hard to buy bolts....figure out the thread, then when you get the stand, measure how long the bushing is that the bolt goes through, and buy them an inch longer than that! You don't need to drag everything around!

i got the 1 from autozone and it worked fine and it was only 49 dollars. the quality isnt the best but it works just fine.

That seems like a lot...I have had my $30 Harbor Freight one for like 9 years now...and its held up fully assembled 455 big block oldsmobile engines.

I don't want to be a dick here or anything, but I work for a bolt manufacturer, and there is no way in hell that the trans bolts are M8 by anything, I think you are likely correct on the thread count being 1.5 but I would be 99.9% sure that they are at least M10 or M12 X 1.5

Ok...I looked it up....what a mixture of bolts.

M12 x 1.25 on the top
M12 x 1.25 on the bottom
M14 x 1.5 on the rear mount
and a mix of M10 x 1.25 and M8 x 1.25 on the clutch cover

No offense.. but you shouldn't be working on an engine if you can't do this.
