Default Stern Wheels

Has anybody heard of Stern Aguzze S-07R wheels?

I did a Google search but did not come up with much. Here is a pic:

http://www.wheelspecs.com/specs/wheelmodels/40

I am considering buying a used set for autocross use. The seller says his white 15x7" wheels weigh only 9.5 lbs each. He says they are made in Japan and are forged. That's all I know about the wheels. Does any retailer currently sell these wheels in the US? Any info appreciated.

Those wheels have been discontinued for several years now. http://www.machiii.net had been trying to sell off the leftovers for years. The last ones were bought up earlier this year by a couple people in this forum.

Have you heard anything negative about them? The seller is asking $700 which seems pretty reasonable for a set of forged 9.5 lb wheels, assuming they are in good shape.

The 15" wheels are NOT forged (the 16 and 17" were), and were being sold be MachIII for $400 a set.

I picked up a set if Sterns from MachIII last Feb and they weigh aout 13lbs as they are cast not forged. I'd be leary if he said they were forged. Ask for proof if you can. Otherwise 700 is a bit much. But overall the wheel is great with good build quality.

My "stern uglies" weigh just over 13lbs and are cast. $700 is a bit steep for these wheels, even though they are discontinued.

$700 is too much... i think they were $150/ea for the 15"

Also, if you bend one up you wont be able to get a replacement as easily.

Are you sure Stern never offered the 15x7" wheel in a forged version? Perhaps Mach III chose only to import the cast 15x7" wheels, but forged versions were available through other vendors. This is a point I will confirm with the seller before buying, obviously. It's not like you can pretend one is the other--any scale will reveal the truth.

Sterns were never offered forged in 15x7.

I have a set.

They're decent wheels for the price.

EDIT: For the price I paid, not for $700. That's ridiculous.

There are two versions of the wheel, the Stern Aguzze S-07 and the Stern Aguzze S-07R. The S-07 was only available in 15" and 16" sizes, and it was cast. The S-07R was the one that was forged, and it was only available in 17" and 18" sizes.

I have a set of the forged 17x7.5 S-07Rs for my Prelude. The finish on my S-07Rs is still perfect after almost 2 years on my car. The quality of these wheels is second to none. Stern/Hindex used to be one of the premiere Japanese wheel manufacturers, comparable to Rays Engineering and Hart Wheels. Unfortunately, Stern and its parent company, Hinodex, have been out of business for several years.

No, I'm not 100% positive. Do your own research and maybe you'll find the answer.

I am 100% positive that the 15" and 16" versions were all cast. And the 17" and 18" ones were all forged. If the manufacturer's website was still up, I'd send you a link. It used to be http://www.hinodex.co.jp .... But they are long gone.
