Polishing/resurfacing rims?
hey i recently got rims for my car..and like theres like curb marks all over..where can i go or can i do it myself and get my rims resurfaced and repolished?? i dont want it painted..so i want to keep it the same
If you are talking about the ls wheels in your sig, I know all about this. The problem lies in the fact that they have a clearcoat on them. You will also notice the fine lines in them from the machineing process. If the marks are on the lip only, then its not a big deal. But if they are all over the place, it's gonna be more trouble than its worth.
For the lip:
Realize that this does take time. I started out with a 200 grit and went around the lip in tiny tiny circles until all of the clearcoat and machined grooves were gone. I did it by hand, and it worked much better if you use water dabbed on the lip. Then I did the same process with 400, 600. Then I bumped up to 1000, and then 1400 (I think) grit and sanded in line with the lip so it doesnt have small scratches. Then finished off the polish with some mother's mag wheel/aluminum polish and it should look pretty sweet. A lot of elbow grease by hand, probably took me 2 hours per wheel with resting my arm
