Default High viscosity vs low viscosity oil on track

cliffs notes: guy does a track day on amsoil 20w-50, sends oil to be analyzed.
guy does a track day on amsoil 10w-40, sends oil to be analyzed.
10w-40 shows much better results.
(FWIW, it is a 2.0L turbocharged subaru motor, so may not 100% apply to a honda engine.)

comments? opinions?
What weight oil you guys use on track?

i use the recommended factory weight; 5w-30. happens to be Mobil 1, and I change every weekend or so.

i feel that as long as you have a decent method of maintaining the oil temp in the reasonable range (less than 260 degrees) that the standard weight oil is best. i feel that using the real heavy oil (20w-50) is bad for the motor, especially on cold startup. plus, the heavier oil wastes hp.

keep an eye on the oil temp and pressure, and if it is in the "good" range, use the recommended oil weight.

just my opinion.

todd

ps it took a real big oil cooler to keep the oil temp in check in my Honda!

I tried a search to find a relatively recent post about Mobil 1 5w30 vs. M1 0w40. The 0w40 created ~10 psi higher oil pressure than the 5w30 while maintaining about the same temp. I have some Mobil 1 0w40 in the garage about to go in for an upcoming HPDE @ Moroso.

Where is your pressure sending unit - or - where does the gauge tap into?
