Default Powershifting?<----Same as DC? or something else? Elaborate Please.

Whats powershifting? Is it the same as double-clutching? Or rev-matching? Hell I don't know.

Forgive me if I'm wrong but powershifting is shifting without letting off the gas. Shifting gears with full throttle, very hard on a car.

Powershifting: shifting with the throttle nailed to the floor at all times. Clutch, I believe, is used normally. Used in drag racing.

Speedshifting: shifting without the clutch. everything else done normally. Can rev match.

Shortshifting: skipping a gear or gears while shifting. Usually done when getting on the freeway, eg. getting up to 70mph in 3rd and then going to 5th, skipping 4th.

I think...

It is not exactly safe but as long as the revs drop enough it *should* go in...

I've always thought of speed shifting as a very fast normal shift with clutch. I think the term used for shifting without the clutch is called "floating gears"?

Tried Double Clutching for the first time today....first time I didnt rev the engine high enough. The second time was pretty smooth.

It's safe when everything goes right, but not if it doesn't (duh). I like to show people on my jetta, but I wouldn't do it on a nice car. That's what the clutch is for. But lots of times on older cars, the synchros are shot anyway, doesnt really make a difference. Another thing, it's a misnomer. it doesnt really let you shift any faster. And you have to rev match to shift...

If you really want to try it, you could do it once without much risk. I would recommend the 3-4 upshift. just do everything normally but dont use the clutch. It will slide in when the revs match.

Shortshifting is shifting before redline, to intentionally keep too much power from going to the wheels. Some RX7s in our area do this, or they get pretty nuts on the AutoX course.
