What does the alternator 4p connector do for me?

Default What does the alternator 4p connector do for me?

It seems that it is just there to detect when the alternator is dead. Helms is a little cryptic on the subject.

I am asking to see if it does anything else. If I get a non honda alternator, I will not be able to use it anymore.

I'm not sure what 4pin connector you are talking about. It might be to supply a charge to the internal coils, internal voltage regulator?. pictures?

It is a 4 prong connector on the back of the alternator. I think it operates the idiot battery light on the dash. I can take a picture from my helms when I get home. It is located on the back of the alternator.
