New FD in LS tranny...how hard?
Alright heres the deal, Im getting a B16A soon while I build up my B18B block (eventually have a fully built LS/VTEC), and I want to use my LS tranny with a 4.9FD, my dad was a mechanic and all and can rebuild domestic RWD trannys in a snap, but he has never worked on a FWD import before. Would putting a new FD in much harder to where he can't do it? Id rather spend ~$275 on a new FD than buy a whole new tranny. thanks.
its a pain in the ***. its time consuming, but can be done. while your in there might as well replace the major bearings and possible your syncro's. but as long as you just mess with the differential your talking maybe 10 hours for everything(if trans is in car still.)
well the tranny will be out of the car as I build my B18B block up. Yea I figured I might as well replace the syncros and whatnot since it has 125k on it.....
get the helms. it shows everything when tearing down the trans. i used it when my dad and i rebuilt my ls trans and it was a life saver.
