Default auto trans help?

any auto trany people out there that know what they are talking about? Right now my car is auto, i bought that way cheap. I want to keep it auto for now, but there are 2 things wrong with it. One the kick down cable is almost frozen it moves but its really hard so i have it disconnected. 2nd thing is in the morning or when the car is dead cold it won't shift until really high RPMs. it will shift at like red line but after it warms up it shifts perfect. ANyone know what i can do to fix this? I want to try and rebuild it myself but i want to know exactly what is wrong before i go messing things up.
Thanks

Well the first thing is I would replace your kick down cable, As for the shifting at higher speeds now does it matter how hard your pushing on the gas pedal? I had it on my Auto CRX that when i would just like put the pedal pretty much almost all the way down it wouldnt shift until close to redline as yours is doing but if I didnt push the gas pedal that hard it would shift fine. All of my Auto CRX's (well only 2) they both shifted hard and a lot of times shifted pretty high. When was the last time you changed and checked your tranny fluid? It could be low and thats causing ti to do it cause once it warms up the fluid expands which will make it shift smoother. I would just change if I was you its not very hard since it has a drain plug and all. Atleast check the level and see if its low. Another thing is once you get to around the RPM's you want to shift at let off of the pedal a little bit and see if that helps.

well its not the cable thats frozen its the lever on the trany itself. so im not sure if i can replace that.
2nd is that it doesn't matter where the gas pedal is it will always shift high, when cold. if i let off it just stay in that gear.
The level is fine, i recently changed the fuild. It has dextron/mercron 3 i believe thats the right kind to use. the level is to the top still. i guess i just need to talk to someone who rebuilds these things, cuz thats proally what i will have to do.
thanks
