Anyone with a **REF** Bar Sticker On a EF 88-91 with OBD1 Motor here...?
Hello,
I have a 92+ XSi Motor. I am running it on my 91 STD the car is running clean very clean. Motor is running strong. I have all the parts new like spark plug, new cap, rotor the Distributor is brand new. I have muffler tech piping and my Cat I think is fine only like 160k mileage. The wiring is OBD1. Checked my timing is correct!!!
I was wondering what else is need I am running a JDM header that came with MOTOR and a JDM ECU. And how about the Canister and stuff like that Vacuum lines MAP Sensors.. I need more information. I have read the threads about EF Bar information doesn’t have enough information about my CAR or Series. So if someone can help me out I would appreciate that after I get my car done I will explain or write up an article on how to do it help out fellow HT members.

try pming eflsvtec he has a bar sticker for his car, i dont know if its obd1 (pretty sure it is) ask him
You need a USDM header and ECU (plus proof from Honda that the ECU serial number you have is USDM) make sure they are from the same year as what you want to smog the engine or that there are no differences between years.
Get a Service manual for that year you are shooting for and make sure all smog equipment is there.
You get 2 visits per 1 pay to the ref. You could just try and go and then they give you a list of what's wrong and you fix it then come back and re-test and as long as you did everything, your done.

BTW, I'm running non obd , very fortunate that the ref didnt inspect my ecu and wiring. Only thing he checked is my O2 sensor (how many wires) I had a one wire O2 and replaced it with a 4 wire heated O2 and I bought a new CAT, that did the trick. No need to put a really high octane gas too, mine passed using 87. Also, i passed with the jdm itr header hidden underneath the heatshield. told the ref that it came with the motor. put the stock intake box but may have to use a bigger tube. I used one from a GSR and just plugged the holes from rubber stoppers from my local hardware. make your engine bay look stock

"If a computer-controlled engine is installed in a non-computerized vehicle, the "CHECK ENGINE" light, the Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) diagnostic link, and all sensors, switches, and wiring harnesses needed to make the system fully functional must also be installed"
DOES this mean the CHECK ENGINE LIGHT SUPPOSE TO BE ON?

Look like-
if an engine that is computer controlled is installed in a car that originally did not have a computer, you must show the light works. If your doing the swap in a 4thgen you shouldnt have to worry about that.

currently my CEL stays on forever. I have a switch to turn it off and on. I was wondering If I cut the Ground wire will the CEL go off and come back on when I turn on the car and go off...?
I want it to be like a regular car turn on for like 2sec and GO OFF.
I don't think their is anything wrong with my car!!!

When you convert to OBD1 aren't you supposed to hook up a toggle switch to turn on the diagnosis mode ( CEL flashing ), or have it off so the CEL goes out?
I have the Toggle switch ON/OFF but I can turn off the CEL to make it go away completely. But When I turn it ON the light doesn't blink even though I jumper the wire under the passenger side dash. It stays ON forever!!
Example: My CEL is ALWAYS ON. When I take out any sensor like vtec plugs, MAP, TPS ETC it gives the code for what I unplugged. Or I unhook the any of CEL sensors it goes out of ALWAYS ON MODE AND START TO BLINK THE CODE OF THE unplugged sensor or bad sensor or whatever its having problems with!!!!
I was wondering how can I pass ref with the Light always ON I don’t want to be turning OFF the switch when that foo is in their looking at me turning off the switch..
I don't think their is any thing wrong with my car. Look at my Sigh Dyno etc.. Everything looks in working ORDER NO PROBLEMS Expect of this issue!!

Hey Bossman,so u say you're running a 92+ XSi motor with JDM header and the JDM ECU which all came with the motor. So I'm under the impression the motor is a JDM one. RULE #1 >>> It has to be a USDM motor if u want to get the bar sticker.

does not have to be a USDM MOTOR. It is a Motor that Came out in Cali DEL SOL OBD1 Dohc Vtec Motor its Similar to that motor Making it Legal to get a Bar Sticker. The thing is that that motor must be Similar to A CA motor!!!

problem with ZC is that depending on where you go you probably wont pass the visual...however you can pass the sniff and everything else easily..check out http://www.norcalcrx.org some gave some tips for passing with a zc engine...but seriously anyone who know takes a single glance and ZC engine and they can see that its not stock.

Pull out the CEL bulb from the back of the cluster, light can never come back on unless you put it back.
