It may be easy to get a new rod, but it crank or the sleeve may be ruined. This block could be a money pit, and considering it is a D I would not waste my time. I learned this lesson years ago.

well. sorta. you have to rip the whole engine apart down to the crank. then once you get it out, you need to take the rod an piston to a mashine shop and have them remove the wrist pin that holds the piston to the rod.

Ask him why it needs a new rod.

I wouldn`t buy it.

YEA, I would not speak with this guy ever again. Every thing was "tested" and it is fine??? But it needs a new rod??? And he wants how much for it??? I think you are about to get ripped off. You can get one that runs for $150 if you just look around.

I know how much he wants for it. The question was rhetorical, and you missed my point. The motor is most likely trash. I have thrown rods in many D motors, and it was never worth it to rebuild. IF this one was then this guy would not be selling it. IF you look around you can find one for that much. I dropped one of those off at a salvage yard last year, along with a few other D motors. I know the guy did not resale them more than $100 each. To many, those motors are boat anchors. If I had to have one of them I would be patient, calm down, and find a good one for cheap. Just look around in the classifieds; they pop up all the time. Considering the slim chance it is a good motor, if you have to ask, then you should not be replacing a rod. But you seem like your mind is made up about it, and you are just looking for reassurance about buying it. I doubt that anyone other than the seller of this motor will assure you it is a good buy. Most likely it is not.
