what to do with $3500
okay i just graduated, and i got 3500 (no more, no less) from my pops to work on my 91 teg, i decided i wanted to work on the motor, someone told me to go to a B16 but i dont want to go 1.8 to 1.6, i want to go LS/Vtec but im really concern about reliability, mostly because i know how i drive my car, 3500 is the most i can spend, i really like to go all motor LS cause of the torque and since im into autocross and not drag, i think it might suit my needs, but if anyone out there knows anything else i can do, please let me know, i live in southern california, so anyone know any good shops or something that i can work with, i also need this all to be done between 7/2 to 7/16. this being i need my car for work as a necessity, and i'm going on vacation to hawaii on july 2nd and coming back the 16th, so basically i'll drop my car off wherever i'll get the work dont and when i come back i can pick it so that theres no down time when i get back, please help this little integra get some muscles asap, thanks to whoever reads this...peace

if i were you...i'd save as much of the money as possible...only thing i would buy would be a b16a head...do a mild lsvtec build w/ the ls block you have already in your car. Get some pr3 or itr pistons, itr valve train, itr manifold, jdm itr header, all the necessary bolt ons, arp head bolts, etc...you'll have a mid to low 14 sec daily driver for under $1500!
Congrats on graduating btw. But in all seriousness, life pretty much begins now. Save the money and go to college. Although more school sucks, just have fun and know that it'll definately pay off in the long run! If you got extra money that you dont "NEED", then play w/ it and invest it in your hobby, but if your going to need the money sometime in the near future, save it and use it wisely. Money doesnt grow on trees (parents) as you'll find out as you get older
just my .02

thanks for the help..but my pops is the wierd type where everyhting has to be spent at once and the same place by the same guy person...
thanks for the advice everyone..i know money doesnt go on trees..but my main concern was basically getting a better motor since i already have 173,005 miles on the beast, i do alot of daily driving cause of work and soon to be school..me motor runs pretty good still but it's REALLY been through alot of ****...plus me going on vacation gives my car the most time to be worked on and maybe possibly finished or almost finished...at least

I think people are missing the point. Although I agree with most of you he should save his $$, he is obviously going to spend it on his car.
Anyone who has done ls/vtec can you please help this guy out. Can you do a good ls/vtec for $3500?????

I would do like what was previously said. it really doesnt matter if you have 500,000 miles if you put pistons, rods, rings and mains. and do a mild vtec head. but before you throw it on definatly get it ported and polished so you dont have to pull the head later
finally decided to go ls/vtec gonna get my car done at j's racing in chatsworth im putting 900 on top of the 3500 my pops is gonna give me so that should be enough hopefully, i know suspension is next on my list but im just being patient since my insurance company is sending me a check from an accident i had last may.

forget ls/vtec if you want reliability. If that is your main concern, but you still want to go FI, get a jackson supercharger. Then you'll still have enough left over to open up a good sized savings account
