Rusty Header
Hey everyone. I just got a Chikara TQ steped header and it's been on for only like 2 months now and it's getting little rust spots on it. Granted the car has been sitting for like a month due to a bad release bearing, but rust already? Does anyone have any sugestions on how to remove the rust and prevent it from comming back? I really like the header but I guess you get what you paid for.
Thanks,
Dan

Buying a new header is out of the question. I am straped for cash like you wouldn't belive. Plus I like the header alot. I noticed a good power gain even with just an intake. If I took the header and sanded the rust spots and then maybe painted it with high temp paint or something of the like it might help?
Thanks,
Dan

I was going to use header wrap when I first put it on but numerous people from the other fourm I belong to told me that the wrap was more for race use and might cause the header to rust on a daily driver. So paint and sand I shall.
Thanks for all the anwsers. I didn't think anyone was gonna reply then over night I got like 6 of them.
Thanks again,

I say paint it and then wrap it. I have my header wrapped on a DC Ceramic header. It's 2 years old and there is no rust on it. I like it because it keeps your underhood temps WAY down. It may cause rust if you live in a really damp area or you wrapped a raw header with no protection at all like a Pacesetter or some other generic brand. The only thing that might happen is the wrap may cause the header to crack, but again, I have had no problems and wouldn't hesitate to wrap another header.
Its a header it rusts, thats what it does.... and then its hard to get off and you curse it to the high hevens.
Just put some high temp engine enamle on it after you Sandblast it or something, or get it JET HOT coated, i have seen quiet a few of those and they look nice.

You can get wrap from Summit, or Jegs, or any Speed/Performance catalog. It will run you about $100 bucks to wrap the thing. Wear rubber gloves and take your time.

I didn't think it would be that much. Well maybe I'll just sand and paint for now.

Well now that I'm thinking about it, it might have cost me around $60. Sorry.

It would work on stainless the same. It really keeps the underhood temps low. Like I said above, it may cause the header to crack because the header would get much hotter than usual.
