How can you tell if your alternator is going bad.

Check the voltage with car running. If you have not drained your battery recently and you are very low, around 13, you may have a problem. If below that, then it is dead. The rectifier can also go. I had that happen in my old mustang. You get ac voltage in the system and dead battery. I don't know how to test for that though.

How much is the autozone rebuilt alt? You will probably need something until your HO alt comes.

IT's not local, but it should be fast.

Contact Dominick Iraggi (dominick@tds.net)

The guys supposedly builds killer alternators (search on any of the big boards - termpro, elitecaraudio, carsound, etc). A while back he quoted me 320 for a 150A alternator.

I've heard two nasty rumors lately:

1. he is no longer doing Honda/Acura cases b/c they don't cool at all - heat is just one enemy
2. gm small case alternators bolt up with just some washers for spacers.

Hope that helps....you can always try http://www.4alterstart.com - but no guarentees

Those are my two internet based sites - if you want local, look up alternators in the yellow pages - you should be able to get a rebuild or a rewind.

The only problem is that most rewinds put out less power at idle then the factory unit...

Alterstart claims 70 amps at idle.

I can build you a 200 amp alternator for your Integra but it might require some modification to the top bracket. I can build it and ship it for $270.00 (inside the U.S.). Let me know if you have any questions or if I can help you in any way. Thank you for your time and e-mail.

Your site stated that they could work on hondas, but did not state which ones.

Thanks,

An alternator only puts out power when needed.

hey, if your running the g2 alternator you can buy the g3 95+ is better alternator. its 90 amps instead of the 75 amps. i did that and it was a direct replacement. and helped with my lights dimming. also get a cap or deep cycle battery. wont strain the alt under heavy load.

I did not realize he was g2. g3 alt sucks too, I have one

Also some places only show the g3 alternator rated at 80 amps, instead of 90. Is 80 the hot rating?

i think 80 amps is the rms. usualy the highest number is peak amps. you hardly ever draw that unless you got some serious pull.
