Nitto 555R...60ft times in your GSR?
Just got em...205/55-14...went to the track last night and the best I could manage was a 2.21 60 ft....i know i can do better, and i know i just need to practice...but i could use something to aim for...what have you guys got with the drag radial?
thanks
thanks
i would say that not bad, especially for the first time. you went with 14's - good. more sidewall = more flex. the best i could muster was a 2.257, 2.259, 2.263. that's with an ambient temp of 71, tire psi at 17, launching at 4500. i was afraid at first to go below 20psi, but all my best runs were under this, as low as 14psi. down know what you tried but you may need to go lower. i was also using honda 14" steel rims, so anything lighter would do better. i know there's gotta be more to these tires by practicing and adjusting launch rpm, psi, etc.
haha...the funny thing is...i forgot my tire pressure guage...so I have no clue what i was running at...i would let a little air out each time...and my best was the last...so i guess lower is better...but the lower you go, the more it slows you down goin down the track...friday, i'm bringing my guage...and really gonna work at finding a good pressure
My friend pulled a 1.995 on Nitto Drag Radials.
You should easily get 2.0-2.1 times with the drag radials...expecially since 2.2X is easy to get on regular street tires.

i know those michlins dont count as regular street tires...cause those things are crap
i know i can get atleast a 2.1x....someday a 2.0...just need practice

With the drag radials do you drive through the water box and try to smoke them a little (get them heated up) or just drive around the box and launch like you would with regular street tires?
at sears point they get mean, start waving their arms yelling, "NO! NO!! NO!!!" if you head for the water
when you think about it they're closer to street than slick. i would say no to water except for your eight glasses a day

yeah you definately want to heat em up. maybe do a couple (burnouts) and hope you got both tires (assuming you have no LSD). then i do a couple quick hops to get rid of rocks. basically you want to pretend you have slicks, just skip the water.
i was usin the water...its pretty hard to heat tires up good without the water...
not that i never got them heated enough...i didn't spin once...
on my last launch i think i was close to 6k...it just grips n goes

yes it has "improved dry traction due to high block rigidity, ultra-high grip compound, and large surface area contact with the road" but it's basically a street tire, a radial. the same reason you shouldn't go in the water with your paradas applies - it will actually hurt your launches. Unlike slicks, heating street tires will actually ruin the traction on your street tires. Another reason why you shouldn't go through the waterbox is that...on treaded tires..you bring out water into the staging area...therefore you will lose traction during launches. ok?
actually, the nitto's are made of a compound similar to that of slicks...just with tread...so the compound works better when heated...
you know, i hate when people say things without explaining why they said something....
so explain yourself
so explain yourself
the reasoning is b\c drag radials have "tread" small amount but its still there water gets soaked in there and loss of traction.
water box burnout - 15.0
w/o waterbox 14.9
not saying thats why but i havent been in the waterbox since i hit the 14.9 and now i am at a 14.6 soooo.......
the only thing the water is for is to get your tires spinning to do a burnout...theres no way (if you do a burnout correctly) that it would cause you to loose traction when you actually race.
But, you stick with your technique, and I'll stick with mine.

yes, you are supposed to heat them up... if you do it enough they can get pretty ******* sticky...
your tire pressure is too low man... id run like 18psi in the front or so... you are going to hurt your times as you go down the track with it at 14.
What do you launch at... try getting those nittos really sticky and launching real high.. thats how i've seen like 1.9s in stock GSRs done.

01 GSR axles dont break unless you get wheel hop. You mostly get wheel hop on street tires. Every time I used slicks on any of my cars or any cars that I have driven I have never hopped. I ran 1.9 60ft on my stock michelins and the axles are still doing okay.
The only time axles will break is:
1. When they are really croocked from major lowering of the vehicle.
2. Wheel hop.
