DC or Comptech headers for 2001 GSR?
What do you guys think, Comptech 4-2-1 stainless headers or DC 4-2-1 stainless headers. Is the performance/reliability of the comptechs worth an extra 100?
Thanks,
Thanks,
What about A'PEXi?
I looked at a set of Comptechs at the dealer this week and wasn't impressed by the multi-piece construction.
Do they make one-piece headers?

my opinion: comptech

The Comptech header I have is 1 piece. I like it a lot too. While it didn't show the same gains as the DC one in the SCC test, it DID liven up the low and midrange quite a bit. The SCC test showed that DC and Comptech tied for peak torque. Their design has expanding primaries as you go from the head to the cat...supposedly this helps torque a lot.
One thing to think about...lots of people get DC headers that have burred edges or sloppy welds. I seriously DOUBT that a header of that quality excelled in the SCC test...it's likely that SCC got a cleaned up version, not a shipping one. The Comptech header I got had perfect welds and smooth edges.

The justification for the extra 1 bill is the quality of the Comptech header and their really good customer service. (namely Bob at Comptech) There was a lot of debate as to the validity of the SCC tests, but all in all, for any of the quality headers the differences between the gains of each header will be minimal. Meaning they will all perform about the same.
I have a set of DC ss 4-2-1 and the inside welds could not be described as smooth.
OT-anyone have any ideas on how to clean them up? I would look into the Apexi because they always advertise the ports as having been "deburred and hand ported for optimal exhaust flow." Also because if you look at the picture of the header, on the very right most primary when viewed from the front, there is a support bracket just like the factory piece.

The one I saw had runners that were welded around 1/3 of the way down into the next portion of the runner.
Comptech does make one piece and muli-piece headers, though?
What's the $$$ difference. Dealer wanted ~$500 for the one I saw.
Anbody heard about differences in the 00-01 GSR exhaust system that make the A'PEXi header unworkable?

Any JDM header w/ a 2.5" collector is going to outperform a USDM with a smaller collector. Note that you'll have to get a new cat though to mate with a JDM.
