What to pay for an ITR... and insurance
Hi all,
I never look in this forum but the opportunity has come up to get a 1998 ITR with AC. I've been looking at WRX's but for the price I can get this ITR at I would rather stay loyal to Honda than get the ugly bugeye 02/03 WRX. Since it's so hard to price them with no guides and very few sales, I was just wondering if you could throw out some numbers for how much it would be worth. It has 45k miles and is all stock with AC installed. Seems like it will hold it's value better than an 02-04 WRX as well.
Another thing is... just in case [fingers crossed] it is ever stolen, how does insurance reimburse you? The book value is very low (only a grand or two above same year GSR), has anyone had luck being paid market value on it? I know if I resell it in a year or two I won't lose much, but if it's stolen I don't want to lose a bundle.
Thanks and wish me luck.

All I gotta say is Goodluck with Insurance. If you are remotely close to my age I suspect you will be paying an arm and a leg. Granted... location, age, driving record, and lots of other things are taken into consideration... i'd call your provider first. That is the only way to get a true quote.

Damn!!!! $470....what the heck did you do???? Or I guess, who is your insurance through?
Mine is $360 a month and I'm only 22....Call Progressive!!!
As far as insurance goes, depending on your driving record, you should expect to pay between 150-500 a month depending on your age, the state that you live in, how many cars you have, and a couple other little details. I really don't have the first clue on how bad insurance in Jersey is?
Good luck,
Aj

I haven't gotten my quotes yet since i just bought the car...but i'm getting scared...because...well.....i'm 17
I think it will go under my dad's name though
To answer the original question, you would generally be looking at $15500-$18000 depending on the condition of the car...generally. Hell i lucked out and got my mint condition for $14,250

Don't worry about what any given website will show for market value. Some of those websites aren't worth the paper they're not printed on, and the insurance companies know that just as well as we do. (The same thing is true for NSXs, with websites showing ridiculously low market values, but I've heard from numerous NSX owners who have lost their cars and been quite pleased with their insurance settlements.)
The amount that they reimburse you will vary. However, the idea is that their settlement is supposed to be enough to enable you to buy another, similar car to the one you lost. If they give you $XX,000 you can challenge them to show you where you can buy another one for that price, and you can also support your case for a higher price by showing them ad listings for similar cars. Some insurance companies are more generous than others, and some will give you a harder time negotiating than others. (I've found out from personal experience that they may talk about "good hands" but all they want to give you is one finger.) It may take some negotiation but you can come out square.

I have 20th century, its a bit pricey, but its worth it.

For insurance, get it registered under your moms name, and get them to put you on the oldest POS your family has. It wont be that bad then.
I would say a 98 w 45k on it is probably worth 16-17,000
As far as the WRX. The only thing it does well is straight line. If thats all you want, get a mustang. Its much funner than a 4 door 4 cylinder.

nsxstasy: that's exactly what i wanted to know. thanks, that eases my mind. heck with so few 98's the market value might even go up.
seems like $16-17k is the going price, do i have room to haggle?
