Default Taking the R to upstate NY, will I be lonely?

Well, I was planning a road trip in the R for the fall... turns out it will be on a trailer behind my moving truck. I'm moving to the Rochester, NY area in September. Hurray, I'll be there just in time to get the R off the road for 6 months.

Any other R's around there, or will I be lonely?

Any clue as to the closest tracks, both 1/4 mile and road course?

I guess I'll have to drive back to AZ anyway next year for the expo...

There are a couple Rs out that way....but there's a HUGE DSM crew, who are pretty fast. Our Auto-X scene up here is pretty nice too.

You're moving from Arizona? Well, welcome to cold, harsh winters and hot, humid summers. You're gonna miss the AZ climate. I think Owen the soyboy on the board is in Rochester..Good luck..

Welcome to NY State. We will accompany you

Your hometracks are Englishtown for Drag Race, and Lime Rock Park for Road Course. Both are less than one hour away from you. You are also in the middle of some 5 autocross organizations.

Also, you will not be alone to drive back to AZ for Expo 4, you'll be in a caravan of possilby 10+ ITRs.

are you crazy? lol

Etown is 5+ hours from Rochester and about 350 miles! Lime Rock is very far too.

Rochester is the middle of nowhere.

There are 4 itr's in buffalo that I am aware of, 1 champ and one py that are autox'd on a regular basis, another py i see seldom with clear corners, and yet another py with comptech boltons owned by a woman.
There are bound to be one or two in the rochester area as well.
Closest 1/4 mile track is nyirp http://www.nyirp.com only about 50 min from roch, closest roadcourse is watkins glen.
Check out http://www.roclife.org which is based in roch as well as the link in my sig for local forums.
Welcome to hell.

HEY its not that bad!
Rochester is only around a 45 minute drive from WATKINS GLEN which is one of the best roadcourses in the USA. We have autocrosses almost every other week for 8 months, between the Porsche/BMW club and the SCCA, then there are out of region events within one hour at Syracuse and Buffalo. Also there is a large group of trackheads in S2000 forums up here that you will likely feel more at home with than the hybrid guys... even though I am a hybrid guy myself. There are several R owners in Rochetser but not that many come out and play at the autox's although I've met some that are at the Glen on a regular basis.

Other roadcourses... Pocono is a 5 hour drive, Lime Rock is also about that, then MoSport in Canada is just around a 4 hour drive. Not a bad place to live at all. Those Buffalo guys dont like us because we are faster over here

WELCOME!

hey owen, just out of curiosity, where do they hold autox events in Buffalo? That's my home town but I wasn't into racing at all when I left.

Erie Community College and a place called NCCC I think its a Niagara community college maybe?

Also a gokart track in Batavia like 15 minutes east of Buffalo.
H20FV or sumthin posted pics in the roadrace/autox forum.

Are you seriously planing on moving from Arizona to Rochester NY? Please think about your decision carefully. Can I ask why? Is this a job transfer? They better be doubling your salary? Or are you a religious missionary?

Before you make this drastic action, think about what your getting yourself into

If you do come here.... Welcome to NY

Try Cayuga (now misnamed Toronto Motorsports Park). It's a smallish track, but a lot of us make it down there from Toronto. Plus it's super close to Buffyhole. I believe there are a bunch of SCCA guys who make it down there.

That's probably not the best route, but it's better than the one Maquest gave. Actually, that's a damn ugly route since you can take the Peace Bridge and cut tons out of miles out of it here:

http://maps.yahoo.com/py/dstma...y=183

So it's much closer than 150 miles. Mosport isn't too far, but Shannonville might be a bit of a treck. Oh hell... here's Shannonville:

http://maps.yahoo.com/py/ddRes...tions

...and here's Mosport:

http://maps.yahoo.com/py/ddRes...tions

Actually, both of the tracks are a little further than the directions show, but those are the closest cities. I don't know how far you are from the US tracks though. Maybe Beaverun is close-ish too? Yeah, not too far I guess...

Thanks for a bunch of info there. I had no idea that Mosport was that close, and I completely forgot that Batavia has drags. I figured that Watkins Glen was close, but again there spunds like a fair amount of auto-x and other things to keep me busy.

I'm going for a job transfer, not a permanent one. I was an Albany native so I know all about snow. Anyway, I guess it will be alright, just not the same as AZ.

I appreciate all of your input on what to expect. Be there in Sept most likely.
