Default thinking of building my motor

well i have a spare 1.5 liter dx motor sitting in storage right now and i want to rebuild it, here is the what i am thinking of doing:

srp 10.5:1 compression pistons cryo treated
stock 1.6 liter 88-91 si rods cryo treated
block bored .020 over and cryo treated
cryoed and knife edged crank
ferrera valve springs and retainers
exospeed race cam
full port and polish
4 angle valve job
new SS valves (havent decided which yet)
port matched intake manifold and throttle body
bisimoto header
AEBS adjustable cam gear
deck milled
metal headgasket
330-450 cc injectors
havent decided on fuel pump
and for management im just going to use the apexi SAFC for now

basically tell me what you guys think of this setup, im trying to shoot for around 150whp out of the motor, i think that with this setup its obtainable and passable, tell me what you think.

matt

edit: does anybody have the dyno plots for the exospeed race cam at all?

You know what you would have there when your done?

a D-series motor..

take it from someone who has built a D-series and now has a B-series, dont even waste your time. 150 whp? that is like a walk in the park with a slightly modded B-series. Not to mention the engine would be way more relible.

330-450 cc injectors are not needed...
larger fuel pump is also not needed...

I know it sounds like a cool idea to build a D-series, but in the end you will really regret it, I have over 4 grand in my Built ZC, and totally wish I could go back and redo everything.

I see you posting alot on this board Abaz, and half the time you're knocking d series. haha your words ALONE have really made me wanted to feel what a turbo b is like.

Anyway, I dunno if you should build it or not, but I have a friend that just built the old d16a6 motor I took out of my Si for a ZC and he totally stomps my car. Of course he basically stripped it out to just an engine and seat but its still damn impressive how much faster he is. All he mainly did was throw in some high compression 12.5:1 srp pistons with stock rods and a clutch and header.. thats all I can remember anyway.

I have boosted D-series for such along time... and now recently switching from b16a/b18 and now to a B20.. I honestly cant lie, I ******* love the feel & pull of a boosted B-series.

I knock D-series because I wish to educate the people, so they dont make a 4000 dollar mistake like I did

Well, maybe not mistake.... there are just better paths to be taken.

Yea I understand, I hang out on your site alot and I saw the LS/VTEC you had and read what you had to say about it and I see you're goin b20 now.. should be nice.

in your experience, did that boosted ls/vtec have alot more low end pull compared to like turbo zc's you've done in the past? Im sure the answer is yes but I mean is it really worth all the extra money involved in swapping a b-something into an EF?

Awh, feel like we are hi-jacking this thread

Anyways, ya... The B-series for certain have a real good pull on the bottom end, especially the B18's.. A ZC running a good chunk of boost will throw out some pretty decent torque numbers as well. Is it worth it? yes and no, I personally saved and saved and scrounged around for my ls/vtec to get done. B-series is not cheap, no doubt about that. But the output and aftermarket support is so much nicer

the set up seems like it could be nice- I see that you said a "swap" would put you in a new class in racing- would a d16a6 put you in a new class as well? Just thinking that it may be easier to start w/ the 1.6 Vs. the 1.5.

ya the 1.6 would also throw me into a different class, and i just read the rule book and i cant use the srp pistons, i have to use stock. So i guess my 10.5:1 compression isnt going to happen.

use zc pistons that'll bump your compression up to around 11:1 I think.
