Anyone using steelies for solo2?
The reason I am asking is that I am currently planning to buy some R compounds. However, short on cash so I can't buy 15s and R compounds as I had initially intended. Just wondering which brand did you guys use for the 14s.
I've done some checking around and tires for 14s are really narrow, like 185 or 195s. I personally prefer 205s, does anyone make one?
Thanx in advance.

I'm sure going with a wider tire and moving up to an R-compound had alot to do with it.
In my current situation I'm more interested in the comparison of 15 inch Azenis vs. 14 inch steelies with R-tires, which do you guys think will be better for handling and grip?

I have run a 205/55/14 Kumho Victoracer(steel wheels) and 205/50/15 Azenis, and while not on the same car, I can still say the R compound will give much better grip. While Azenis are good, they are still a step down from a race compund tire.

I ran 14x8 diamond wheels for 2 years on my gsr with 225/50/14 in both kuhmo and hoosier. The only real issue was limited clearance by the caliper. I could not use new pads on the outside in front due to the caliper hitting the wheel. I switched to 13" panasports this year for the gearing reduction, but way more cost. I'm sure a good driver can tell a difference due to the greater weight of the steel wheels, but I found very little versus some 15" wheels with 225/45/15, same OD but slightly lighter.

ive run the 205 13's on a 13x5 honda steelie and 205 15 azenis on 15x5 honda steele. my r's made more grip i feel. the lateral grip on the r's was i'd say about 10% but in braking, i felt the r's were about 30% better. i just recantly heard about the diamond wheels and i may be picking up some over the winter.

Mohudsolo: So if you had clearance problems with the Diamond 14x8, then I guess the 13x8s are out of the question for my '99 GSR?
Does anyone use the Diamond 13x8" on their GSR without problems?

I'm just wondering will 205s actually fit on my stock factory steelies? Or will they be too wide to mount them on the steelies? I know Stageone said he ran 205s Victoracer on steelies, but not sure if he's refering to the factor ones. Sorry if it's a dumb question I just don't want to order the tires and when they arrive find out the don't fit.

From his description of the problem he was having I'm guessing it was a backspacing issue not diameter issue. I could be wrong on this but I believe you should be able to use the diamonds in a 13" application for a GS-R. Don't quote me on that tho

its not the optimal choice obviously but it shouldn't be an issue. The only thing you may experience is some inner fender rub when you have the wheel at full lock.

Yep, I ran them on factory 14x5.5 steelies. They fit fine, looked like hell, but other than that they were great.
